Job Title:  Public Programs Coordinator   

Classification:  Non-exempt, full-time, temporary 

Pay Rate:  $28/hour, 35 hours a week            

Reports to:  Deputy Director of Public Programs 

Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) is looking to hire a seasonal, full-time Public Programs Coordinator to help support, manage, and execute its arts, cultural, and recreational programming. The position is instrumental in supporting the existing and new seasonal programs. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Support and supervise various outdoor public programs, including set up (tents, tables, sounds system, signage, barricades, etc.) break down, and on-site presence. Program offerings include, but are not limited to, music concerts, movie screenings, dance and theater events, kayaking, fitness classes, and athletic leagues.  

  • Help manage the Production Assistants, Summer Associates, and Kayak Associates in partnership with the Deputy Director of Programs and the Public Programs Manager.  

  • Track visitor demographic information and program participant numbers through surveys, program attendance counts, and photographs, and enter information into an internal database.  

  • Support Deputy Director of Programs and Public Programs Manager in administrative tasks. 

  • Maintain inventory control and maintenance of all programming equipment. Submit order requests for needed materials related to programming to the Public Programs Manager and retain file back-ups of all details.  

  • Remain outside, in the Park, for the majority of your shift, offering support to program attendees, program partners, Production Assistants, Summer Associates, Kayak Associates and Public Programs Manager. 

Qualifications: 

  • Capacity to function in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities. 

  • Experience supervising, training, and evaluating others (intern or volunteer level is acceptable).  

  • Experience operating sound equipment strongly preferred.   

  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.  

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, as well as the ability to perform physical labor (able to lift 40 pounds, regularly). Work may also be performed at the natural shoreline and on unstable ground.  

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet program needs, including regular evenings, early mornings, and weekends, is required. Schedule will change to follow the needs of the programs, but will often include late Wednesday evenings, all day Thursday, and early Saturday mornings.  

  • Capacity to confidently and accurately enact safety procedures required by staff, program partners and program participants, as well as enforce compliance, communicate related guidelines, and promptly resolve issues as necessary.  

  • Valid state driver's license is required. Must be comfortable driving small vehicles in tight areas around construction, cyclists and pedestrians.  

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook/Teams.  

  • Previous event or arts production experience strongly preferred. 

  • Bachelor's Degree with at least one year of experience in public programming, recreation, arts & culture, visitor services, or comparable training and vocational education preferred.
