BHS RISE / BRIDGE PARAPROFESSIONALS, ESY PROGRAM
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Paraprofessional will support students in an Extended School Year (ESY) program designed to promote independence, community access, and post-secondary readiness. This role focuses on assisting students in a variety of settings, including school-based instruction, community-based experiences, internships, and volunteer placements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Facilitate student learning under direction of the classroom teacher
- Provide direct instruction as planned by the classroom teacher
- Assist with coordination and preparation of materials
- Documentation of skills and/or behaviors as directed by the classroom teacher
- Support students in developing skills related to post-secondary readiness, including participation in internships, volunteer experiences, and community-based learning opportunities
- Assist students in navigating public transportation and traveling safely within the community
- Support implementation of instructional, behavioral, and transition plans as directed by supervising staff
- Help students build independence, communication, social, and functional life skills
- Provide supervision and ensure student safety in all settings, including community and job sites
- Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and program staff to support student goals
- Assist with data collection and documentation as directed
- Accompany students on community outings, site visits, and job-site placement
- May be asked to drive school transportation (school van) to transport students to community-based learning experiences and job sites
- Safety Care trained and/or willingness to be trained
- Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment
QUALIFICATIONS-PREFERRED
- Experience working with high school students with diverse learning needs, including autism
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, including classrooms, community settings, and job sites
- Must be able to walk and travel within the community and accompany students on foot and via public transportation
- Ability to follow directions, work collaboratively, and support student independence
- Flexibility, reliability, and a willingness to engage in active, community-based work
SCHEDULE
- July 6, 2026 - August 13, 2026
- All staff report for a full day on July 6th for orientation and classroom set-up. Students begin on July 7th
- 9:00 - 2:00, Monday - Thursday
- Additional 15 minutes per day for planning
