Brookings Backpack Project provides easy-to-prepare weekend meals and snacks to more than 400 children in Brookings, Elkton, Sioux Valley, and Brookings Head Start.
We are seeking a dependable, organized, and community-minded Program Coordinator to help keep our food distribution program running smoothly. This hands-on position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, coordinating details, and seeing the direct impact of their work.
What You’ll Do
Coordinate Food
- Manage food inventory, ordering, and deliveries.
- Create weekly packing menus.
- Work with vendors to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Coordinate Community Food Drives
Support Our Volunteers
- Recruit, schedule, train, and communicate with volunteers.
- Help lead weekly packing nights and ensure bags are packed accurately.
Help Share Our Mission
- Capture photos and stories from packing nights and community events.
- Assist with social media, marketing, fundraising, and special events.
- Support the Executive Director with projects and other duties as assigned that advance BBP’s mission.
Qualifications
- Education: Minimum High School Degree (or equivalent work experience).
- Technical Skills: Strong computer proficiency with practical experience in social marketing platforms, database management, and Google/Microsoft programming tools.
- Attributes: Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and physically able to support event setup/packing operations.

- A clear and friendly communicator.
- Able to lift and move food shipments weighing up to 50 pounds.
Position Details
- 30 hours per week with some evening availability for packing nights and evening/weekend events.
