Veterinary Assistant Duties & Responsibilities
Perform the following tasks:
- Assist veterinarians
- Monitor vital signs
- Obtain blood, stool, and other samples
- Test blood, stool, and other samples
- Take x-rays
- Prepare animals for surgery
- Perform dental procedures
- Emergency first aid
- Restrain animals during exams
- Administer anesthesia
- Administer medications and vaccines, and treatments prescribed by a veterinarian
Veterinary assistants serve veterinarians in ways that are similar to what laboratory technicians and nurses do for doctors. Veterinary assistants assist with the treatment of animals by taking medical backgrounds from their owners and helping to administer treatments or medications. They also test blood and other samples as necessary.
Pay: $10.00 - $13.00 per hour
Education:
- High school or equivalent (Required)
Experience:
- Veterinary Experience: 1 year (Preferred)
Work Location: One location
