Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments by monitoring vital signs, conducting physical examinations, and evaluating patient conditions to inform care plans.
- Administer medications and injections accurately, including IV infusions and catheterizations, following all safety protocols and documentation standards.
- Assist with medical procedures such as wound suturing, tube feeding, spinal taps, and sterile processing to support physician-led interventions.
- Manage patient documentation diligently using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems like Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks to ensure accurate medical records.
- Support complex care needs including dementia care, Alzheimer's care, memory care, hospice care, and acute pain management for diverse populations.
- Conduct patient triage in urgent care or emergency room settings by assessing symptoms rapidly and prioritizing treatment needs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in specialties such as geriatrics, pediatrics, behavioral health, infectious disease care, and post-acute care to coordinate effective treatment plans.
- Educate patients and families on health coaching topics like medication management, nutrition, discharge planning, and home & community care strategies.
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality and ensure privacy standards are upheld at all times.
- Participate in infection control practices including specimen collection/processing and aseptic techniques to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
- Support special procedures such as cardiac catheterization or ophthalmology-related treatments when applicable.
- Assist in the training of new staff or students by sharing best practices in nursing procedures and patient assessment techniques.
Skills
- Proven experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks is highly preferred.
- Extensive critical care experience including ICU or Level I Trauma Center settings enhances your ability to handle complex cases confidently.
- Strong background in medical-surgical nursing across inpatient or outpatient environments; experience in emergency medicine or urgent care is a plus.
- Skilled in performing phlebotomy (venipuncture), administering injections, IV insertion/infusion therapy including ventilator management when applicable.
- Knowledge of ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) for accurate documentation and billing processes; familiarity with CPT coding is advantageous.
- Expertise in managing patients with chronic conditions such as dementia or developmental disabilities; experience working with elderly populations in assisted living or long-term care settings is desirable.
- Ability to perform physical examinations and diagnostic evaluations confidently while maintaining high standards of patient safety.
- Strong understanding of anatomy and physiology principles relevant to nursing practice; capable of performing tube feedings or gastric lavage as needed.
- Excellent communication skills for effective patient assessment and education; compassionate approach when working with children or individuals with disabilities.
