Principal Drafter

NSLS-II Electrical Design Group has an opening for a Principal Drafter for a 2-year term position. Reporting to the Design Group Supervisor, the candidate will perform drafting duties in support of NSLS-II Accelerator Division. This position will require close interaction with technicians, engineers and scientific staff. The main task will be to provide electro-mechanical drafting, document revision control, and library creation/management, using a variety of CAD/CAM platforms. Tasking will also include provision of drafting support for development and special project initiatives.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• CAD library creation/management
• Create and maintain Schematic and PCB Symbols per IPC-2221
• Experience with ECN Processes (Engineering Change Notification)
• Ability to work directly with scientific, engineering and technical staff
• Maintain and implement safety practices and procedures applicable to daily activities
  
  

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus:
• A technical institute, Adult BOCES certification, AA degree in a technical field, CCI program completion at BNL plus 2 years' experience or;
• A technical high school certification program and 3 years relevant work experience or;
• 4 years' relevant work experience.
  
  

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Some knowledge of AutoCAD Design Software
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications
• Experience with Microsoft Office products
• Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group of technical staff
• Overtime may be requested at times
  
  

Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements

• Occasional work at heights, extreme temperature, confined space, oxygen deficiency, radiation areas, static magnetic fields, on scaffolding and ladders
• Must be able to complete tasks repeatedly
• Must have ability to view color, depth perception and hearing

Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $30.50 - $42.00 / hour. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
