Safety Officer — 2nd Shift
Brookgreen Gardens | Murrells Inlet, SC
Schedule: Full-time | Second Shift 2pm - 10pm | 37.5 hrs/week | Starting @ $14.00/hour
About the Role
Brookgreen Gardens is a National Historic Landmark unlike anywhere else you'll work, centuries-old sculpture, oak allées, wildlife, and a living collection spread across a truly spectacular property. As a 2nd Shift Safety Officer, your focus is the safety and security of everyone on those grounds. You'll walk the gardens, keep an eye out for hazards, help keep buildings and assets secure, and be the calm, capable presence guests, volunteers, and fellow staff can count on when something needs attention.
This role also plays a key part during our signature evening events, including Summer Light and Nights of a Thousand Candles, when the gardens are at their busiest and most magical.
What You'll Do
- Walk the gardens and public areas, watching for safety hazards and responding to guest or staff concerns
- Serve as a visible, reassuring presence for the safety of staff, volunteers, and guests
- Provide extra coverage and support during special events like Summer Light and Nights of a Thousand Candles
- Monitor safety and security systems (CCTV, radios, alarms) and provide desk coverage as assigned
- Confirm buildings and assets are secure during and after shift
- Inspect safety equipment (fire extinguishers, AEDs, exit lights) and address trip hazards
- Administer basic first aid/CPR when needed
- Support weather protocols and evacuation procedures
- Complete incident reports and required training
What You'll Need
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid SC driver's license
- CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Comfortable working outdoors and around wildlife, including reptiles
- Able to lift 60 lbs and pass a background check/drug screening
- Flexible to work weekends, holidays, and evening special events
