Advanced Optician and Optometric Tech/Assistant Manager
Our office hours are 9-5, Mondays and Fridays, 10-6 Tuesdays through Thursdays, and a couple of Saturdays a month from 9-2pm. Flexibility is appreciated.
Hourly compensation: $25.00/hr.
Position for an experienced professional with a proven track record for success. The Assistant manager is responsible for assisting in smooth operations of patient care and optical departments, including billing and in-house finishing lab. Exceptional organizational skills, have at least 5 years of experience in optical AND patient care, and earn ABOC within one year if not already certified. Preference to those with experience in private practice. The manager should be able to independently work as an optician (sales, billing, repairs, adjustments and lab), assist with patient reception and tech as needed.
We provide patients with the absolute best in quality eye care, and as a part of our team, you will guide and assist staff when busy. This includes assisting patients in choosing their eyewear and assisting the doctor with patient care. Prior experience in a private optometry practice is highly preferred. You need knowledge of health insurance billing processes and electronic health records handling procedures according to HIPAA guidelines.
Optician Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide superb customer service to every patient, whether in person, over the phone, or in emails
- Operate optical diagnostic equipment, including lensometers, pupillometers and more
- Multitask while maintaining close attention to detail.
- Proficiency and efficiency in performing daily tasks with low error rate
- Clean and sterilize equipment as necessary
- Contact Lens organization and ordering
- Billing proper vision plans and medical insurance
Optician Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum: High school diploma, Associates degree preferred
- ABOC preferred
- Working knowledge of optical diagnostic equipment
- Friendly demeanor and professional appearance
- private practice experience preferred.
Optometric Technician Requirements and Qualifications
- 2 years assisting doctor in patient care to perform the following testing: Visual acuities, color vision, stereo vision, tonometry/iCare, Optomap, and auto-refraction/K.
- Advanced procedures: OCT (optical coherence tomography), and Visual field testing highly preferred
- contact lens insertion and removal instruction
- maintaining trial contact lenses and patient ordering
- collection of patient co-pays, base insurance knowledge
- professional communications by phone, fax, and email
- assisting reception with phone calls, appointments
- general administrative duties
- light cleaning and sanitization of examination rooms.
Finishing Lab
- No experience necessary, but will be trained to maintain small finishing lab
- Be able to cut and edge single vision, multifocal, and semi-rimless spectacle orders.
