Job Summary
The Energy Trading Analyst would report to the lead Energy Trader to assist and lead in data and market analytics, trading and origination strategies and business unit reporting such as dashboards. In addition, the individual will participate in portfolio optimization around generation production and trading positions.
The intern will possess programming abilities to develop and manage new and existing tools related to energy market fundamentals and analysis.
Responsibilities
- Assist in and lead the development of energy market tools, covering market analytics, price forecasting models, and portfolio optimization analysis;
- Develop and manage Python and Power BI-based tools to analyze and track trading data, forward curves and related reporting;
- Validate key market assumptions with market data and track performance. Research and quantify deviations between forecast, budget and actual results.
- Respond to internal requests from other functions for data and analysis
Qualifications
- Able to meet multiple objectives in a dynamic, fast-paced, team environment;
- Strong attention to detail and ability to synthesize and conceptualize complex ideas;
- Comfortable working with large datasets, able to use statistical analysis and predictive modeling to identify trends;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Knowledge of electric power generation and transmission systems is an asset.
Required Skills and/or Experience
- Working toward a degree in finance, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline;
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and data analytics tools such as Power BI and Tableau;
- Proficiency in Python;
- Familiarity with Databricks and data engineering;
- Experience in energy trading, energy market fundamentals research is an advantage.
Compensation: $25 per hour
