Primary Purpose:

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, this position is a rotating shift schedule including weekends and holidays. the Operator Technician is responsible for assisting the remote operating center (NSCC) with the day to day operating activities for the Bear Swamp Project. This position will require the candidate to obtain qualifications in mechanical and electrical skills as outlined in the labor agreement. Perform corrective maintenance repairs and other general maintenance as necessary.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Practice safe work habits and follow Employer safety policies and procedures. Immediately identify hazardous conditions and/or act upon incorrect procedures when witnessed and, if necessary, stop the work or procedure.

2. Practice sound, approved environmental principles and follow Employer environmental policies and procedures. Immediately act upon incorrect procedures when witnessed and, if necessary, stop the work or procedure.

3. Follow approved Employer security policies and procedures.

4. Through facility operations ensure compliance with all operational requirements and procedures.

5. Identify and operate, as necessary, station hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems including analytical problem solving/minor troubleshooting.

6. Work with crews to repair identified maintenance/operational problems to improve unit availability and station uptime.

7. Maintain basic inventory control on spare parts and equipment.

8. Adapt and respond readily and calmly to changing situations, emergencies including security issues, and multiple priorities in a dynamic work atmosphere.

9. Monitor and report on equipment quality issues per factory requirements and employer specifications from disassembly to commissioning.


Environment may include exposure to moving/mechanical parts, extreme or inclement outdoor climates, enclosed and underground areas, work at heights, or noise levels and atmosphere consistent with industrial environments. Must meet physical demand requirements, with or without reasonable accommodations, consistent with the Americans With Disabilities Act.


Qualifications:

  • Oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to learn and use Windows-based software, including MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to learn and use PI Historian and IFS computer programs as applicable to the position.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be willing and able to travel and stay overnight for employer business purposes such as training and corporate meetings.
  • Associate's degree in electrical engineering tech field or related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of hydro generating units and AC power circuits.
  • Working experience related to power grid operations.
  • Experience with operation, repair, and maintenance of hydro turbine/generator systems and related equipment is preferred as follows: electrical, mechanical, hydraulic as well as minor troubleshooting.
  • High voltage transmission training and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Knowledge of applicable OSHA safety standards.

Pay: $29.99 - $40.28 per hour, per the CBA
