Tree Climber

Position Overview

The Tree Climber / Bucket Operator will work as part of a professional tree crew performing residential and commercial tree-care operations. This position may operate aerial lift equipment, climb trees using approved climbing systems, perform pruning and removals, and assist the crew with ground operations.

We are looking for someone who can work independently, communicate with the crew, operate equipment safely, and maintain a high standard of quality and production.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely climb trees using proper climbing techniques and equipment
• Perform tree removals, pruning, trimming, and hazardous tree work
• Operate bucket trucks/aerial lifts safely and efficiently
• Perform technical removals and sectional dismantling
• Safely rig branches, logs, and other materials
• Assist with crane-assisted tree removals when applicable
• Perform tree pruning according to proper arboricultural practices
• Identify hazardous limbs, defects, and potential job-site hazards
• Operate chainsaws and other professional tree-care equipment
• Assist ground crew with chipping, dragging brush, loading logs, and cleanup
• Maintain and inspect climbing gear, ropes, chainsaws, and personal equipment
• Complete daily truck and equipment inspections
• Follow OSHA, ANSI Z133, company safety procedures, and job-site safety requirements
• Communicate effectively with the Crew Foreman and other crew members
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site
• Protect customer property, landscaping, structures, and equipment
• Assist with storm damage and emergency tree work when needed
• Help train and develop less-experienced crew members when appropriate

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Previous professional tree-care experience
• Experience climbing trees and/or operating a bucket truck
• Knowledge of basic tree biology, pruning, rigging, and removal techniques
• Ability to safely operate chainsaws and tree-care equipment
• Strong understanding of job-site safety
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to perform physically demanding work
• Reliable transportation to the shop/job site
• Positive attitude and strong work ethic
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Preferred:

• CDL Class A or B
• Massachusetts Hoisting License
• Arborist certification or related training
• Experience with crane-assisted tree removal
• Experience operating bucket trucks, chippers, skid steers, loaders, or other equipment
• Experience with advanced rigging systems
• First Aid/CPR certification
• OSHA or ANSI Z133 safety training

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

• Climb trees and work at significant heights
• Lift and carry heavy materials and equipment
• Operate chainsaws and other power equipment
• Work on uneven terrain
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the workday
• Work outdoors for extended periods
• Safely perform physically demanding tree-care operations
