Job Summary

Cleans, polishes, and sanitizes gathering and public spaces including lobbies, halls, stairwells, activities rooms, dining rooms, elevators, etc. to present the community in a positive and impressive manner for residents and guests. Cleans vacant apartments on a weekly basis or as needed. In addition, interacts with residents and guests in a friendly and courteous manner, providing assistance and directions as requested.

Essential Functions

1. Cleans floors to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting, etc. Properly sets up appropriate caution and safety signs to ensure safety of residents and visitors and ensures their removal as appropriate. Cleans carpets including vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting.
2. Removes dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions. Handles hazardous cleaning supplies according to proper procedures and ensures accurate labeling.
3. Cleans public restrooms including washing, sanitizing, and/or polishing bathroom fixtures. Ensures that water marks are removed from fixtures.
4. Performs general maintenance projects as scheduled or assigned, including minor wall repairs, painting and other preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
5. Repairs and maintains vacated rooms in a timely manner. This includes painting walls and cleaning carpets.
6. Ensures that walls, floor coverings, doors, and woodwork in the common areas of the community are properly maintained.
7. Interacts with residents in a friendly manner, providing meaningful attention. Communicates concerns with resident’s health to management as appropriate.
8. Attends and participates in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled or directed.
9. Responds appropriately to resident emergencies by calling or contacting appropriate internal and external parties, according to established protocol. May also assist with disaster management efforts and activities during evacuations (i.e. fires, hurricanes, etc.).
10. Follows proper procedures in emergency situations and responds promptly and positively to resident requests for assistance - including emergency pull cords, telephone calls, and requests from family and friends.
11. Ensures the cleanliness of each building’s exterior and the grounds surrounding it, including collecting and removing trash.
12. Maintains a uniform landscape by picking up all debris around buildings and through breezeways of buildings.
13. Shovels snow, spreads salt, and/or removes ice on public passageways and parking lots.
14. Repairs walls, floor coverings, doors, and wood work in the common areas of the community.
15. Documents safety issues as well as physical plant deficiencies related to local, county, state and federal guidelines. Reviews safety data sheets (SDS) as requested for potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and takes necessary precautions.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three to six months related experience preferred and/or training in direct service with older adults, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Refer to specific state regulations for qualifications required to assist with medications and direct care duties.
Knowledge of dementia particularly of the Alzheimer's type is helpful. Prior experience in cleaning, housekeeping and light Maintenance tasks preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, and other Special Requirements

In accordance with state law, may need to possess current state certification and follow regulations to maintain certification currency
