What are the responsibilities and job description for the Repair Technician position at BronxWorks?
BronxWorks helps individuals and families improve their economic and social well-being. From toddlers to seniors, we feed, shelter, teach, and support our neighbors to build a stronger community. Across our 60 locations, we provide programs in a variety of service areas, including workforce development, children, youth, families, seniors and homeless prevention.
Our family shelters are safe, welcoming spaces where families can stay temporarily while they work toward long-term stability. Program staff provide compassionate support, life-enhancing services, and community-based resources to help empower each family. Together, we guide families on their journey back to independence and into permanent housing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist superintendent in any repair as necessary.
- Provide light electrical repairs on appliances, fixtures, switches, outlets, circuits, etc.
- Perform groundwork.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, empty trash, clean windows, etc. regularly and as necessary.
- Perform swimming pool maintenance as assigned by supervisor.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- One to two years' experience in building maintenance.
- Proficiency in English required; proficiency in a second language preferred.
- Valid driver's license from the state in which the bearer resides preferred, with less than three (3) points acquired in the last three (3) years.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to climb and stand on a 15-foot ladder.
- Ability to lift, pull, push and/or move a minimum of 60 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, crouch or sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to climb five flights of stairs.
- Ability to bend and retrieve objects.
- Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
- Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather.
