The Director of Nursing for Cardiology and the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is accountable for planning, organizing, and directing the operations of cardiovascular and critical care nursing services across Bronson’s four facilities. Essential Duties & Responsibilitie
sSystem Accountabilities
- :Provides leadership for process, policy, procedure, and clinical protocol development for cardiology and MICU nursing services across BMH, BBC, BLH, and South Haven
- .Collaborates with Directors, managers, and physician leaders to establish and achieve system-wide goals, scorecards, and performance metrics
- .Ensures consistent and timely communication of initiatives, policies, and outcomes across the system
- .Coordinates system-wide planning for staffing, equipment, technology, and clinical practice standards to ensure standardization and quality care delivery
- .Partners with IT and clinical informatics teams to optimize Epic workflows for cardiology and MICU documentation and order sets
- .Ensures compliance with all applicable accreditation, regulatory, and quality standards
.Operational Accountabilities (BMH)
- :Leads day-to-day operations of cardiology and MICU nursing units, including staffing, patient care delivery, and resource management
- .Implements Bronson’s Plan for Excellence and Bronson Management System within areas of responsibility, driving improvement in quality, service, and cost of care
- .Mentors, coaches, and develops frontline leadership and staff to strengthen succession planning, engagement, and professional growth
- .Builds and sustains strong unit-based shared governance councils to promote staff input and engagement
- .Collaborates with physician leadership to ensure efficient, patient-centered care, incorporating value-based decision-making
- .Leads performance improvement and quality initiatives aimed at advancing clinical outcomes, safety, and patient experience
- .Participates in workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and professional development of nursing staff
- .Oversees budget development, monitoring, and adherence for defined areas
- .Develops and submits capital budgets, ensuring appropriate documentation and justification for requested resources
- .Maintains visibility and accessibility to staff, physicians, and patients, fostering a culture of collaboration and trust
.Qualification
- sEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required; Master’s degree in Nursing or a related field required
- .Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan required. Specialty certification in cardiology, critical care, or nursing leadership preferred
- .Experience: Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible nursing leadership experience, including management of critical care or cardiovascular services at the department head level
- .Professional Membership: Active membership in professional nursing or healthcare organizations related to cardiology, critical care, or nursing leadership preferred
