Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Estimator and Purchasing Agent to manage both the quoting process for clients and the procurement of materials and services from vendors. The ideal candidate will have experience working in metal industries and have strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills to ensure projects are profitable and completed with high-quality, cost-effective resources.
Responsibilities
Quoting and estimating
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and other project documents to prepare accurate and timely cost estimates for clients.
- Collaborate with the sales and engineering teams to define project scope and requirements.
- Provide detailed breakdowns of material, labor, and subcontractor costs to create comprehensive project proposals.
- Present quotes to clients and internal stakeholders, providing clarifications and answering questions as needed.
- Follow up on submitted quotes to secure new business and manage the transition from quote to active project.
Purchasing and procurement
- Research, evaluate, and select potential suppliers and vendors based on price, quality, availability, and reputation.
- Request bids and proposals (RFPs) from suppliers to determine the most cost-effective options for necessary materials and services.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms of agreement with vendors to secure the best possible value for the company.
- Issue and manage purchase orders (POs) for approved goods and services, ensuring all details are accurate and comply with company policy.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure a reliable supply chain and resolve any delivery or quality issues.
- Monitor stock levels and track the progress of all orders from placement through delivery.
Administrative and analytical
- Maintain accurate records of all quotes, purchase orders, contracts, and supplier information in internal databases and ERP systems.
- Conduct market research to stay up-to-date on pricing trends, new products, and potential vendors.
- Perform regular cost analyses to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Coordinate with the warehouse and accounting departments to ensure accurate receiving of goods and timely payment of invoices.
- Generate reports on purchasing metrics, spending, and quote activity for management review.
Qualifications
- Education: A bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field is often preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a purchasing, procurement, or estimating role is highly desirable in metal related industries.
- Skills:
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- Proficiency with Technology, quick learner.
- Experience with purchasing software, ERP systems, or estimating platforms.
