About the Position

Bromwell Construction Company is looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter specializing in high-end custom trim and millwork, cabinetry installation, and custom built-in fabrication.

This is a hands-on position for someone who wants to own their work. You will spend your days on the tools while taking responsibility for your respective trade and scope from layout through final completion.

We aren’t looking for someone who simply knows how to install trim. We’re looking for a carpenter who takes pride in the details, understands what finished work should look like, solves problems in the field, and wants their name associated with the finished product.

You need to give a damn about the work you put out.

You’ll have the opportunity to work on high-end custom homes and renovation projects where quality and craftsmanship matter. You’ll also help train the next generation of carpenters while having the opportunity to grow with our in-house carpentry and millwork operation.

What You’ll Do

As a Lead Carpenter, you will take ownership of high-end finish carpentry and millwork scopes, including:

• High-end interior trim and architectural millwork
• Cabinetry installation
• Custom built-in fabrication and installation
• Crown molding, baseboard and casing
• Panel molding, wainscot and custom wall details
• Interior and exterior door installation
• Fireplace mantels and surrounds
• Coffered ceilings, beams and other ceiling details
• Custom shelving
• Finish hardware installation
• Punch-list and detail work
• Limited stair and railing work as required
• Field fabrication and shop fabrication of custom millwork and built-ins

You’ll work from our dedicated shop as well as directly in the field depending on the project and scope.

Ownership & Leadership

This isn’t a position where you’ll wait for someone to tell you what to do next.

You’ll be expected to:

• Own your assigned carpentry and millwork scopes from start to finish
• Plan your work and think ahead about materials, tools, layout and sequencing
• Read and interpret architectural plans, interior elevations, cabinetry drawings and shop drawings
• Lay out work accurately before fabrication or installation
• Identify field conflicts and work through solutions before they become problems
• Coordinate directly with Bromwell Project Managers and other trades
• Communicate material, scheduling and field needs to the Project Manager
• Maintain an organized and professional work area
• Protect finished surfaces and completed work
• Complete work safely and keep a clean jobsite
• Perform your own quality control before calling work complete

You’ll typically work with a carpenter helper or apprentice and will be responsible for providing direction, teaching proper techniques, and helping develop their skills.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced finish carpenter who cares about their craft and understands the level of detail expected in a custom home.

Preferred experience:

• 7–10 years of finish carpentry, trim, cabinetry and/or architectural millwork experience
• Strong background in high-end residential construction and renovation
• Experience fabricating and installing custom built-ins
• Experience installing cabinetry and detailed architectural millwork
• Ability to read architectural plans, elevations, cabinetry drawings and shop drawings
• Strong understanding of layout, dimensions, tolerances and finish details
• Ability to work independently and lead your assigned scope
• Ability to troubleshoot field conditions and develop practical solutions

You also need to work well with people. Our carpenters work inside our clients’ homes and represent Bromwell Construction every day.

That means being respectful, communicating professionally, working well with the rest of the project team, and treating the client’s home like it’s your own.

Tools & Equipment

You should have the tools expected of an experienced lead carpenter, including:

• Standard hand tools
• Cordless and portable power tools
• Miter saw
• Table saw
• Other standard tools required to independently complete daily carpentry and millwork tasks

Bromwell Construction provides larger and specialty equipment, including router tables and other specialty fabrication tools.

A tool allowance is also provided.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license
• Reliable transportation during the initial employment period
• Ability to lift approximately 50–75 lbs.
• Ability to safely operate carpentry tools and equipment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a larger project team
• Ability to maintain a safe, clean and organized work environment
• Willingness to travel throughout our normal project area

Schedule

• Full-time position
• Minimum 40 hours per week
• Monday through Friday
• Overtime opportunities available
• Saturdays as project schedules require

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Rate: per hour, based on experience and skill level

We’re continuing to build our internal carpentry and millwork capabilities.

For the right person, this position has room to grow beyond being a Lead Carpenter. There is an opportunity to take on additional responsibility within our in-house carpentry and millwork operation, help develop apprentices and younger carpenters, and potentially lead a larger carpentry team as the company grows.
