JOB SUMMARY: Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to patients, and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the nursing and medical staff. This open opportunity is for night shift.
EDUCATION: GED or High School Diploma preferred
EXPERIENCE: Past experience as a nursing assistant in a hospital or nursing home preferred.
CERTIFICATE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Active Nebraska Nurse Aide Certification preferred
- BLS within 3 months of employment required
Qualifications:
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:

- Assists in preparation of units, patient rooms and beds for receiving patient admissions, returning surgical patients, transfers, emergencies, or discharges.
- Assists in and accompanies patients in the admission, transfer and discharge procedures.
- Provides post mortem cares.
- Provides morning and evening care, which may include shower, tub bath, bed bath, oral hygiene, shaving, combing hair, back care, dressing patient, changing and/or freshening bed linen, cleaning over bed table and beside stand, straightening room, emptying trash, and other general care as necessary throughout the day.
- Performs routine treatment procedures including application of heat and cold, and sitz bath.
- Assists nurse or therapy in complicated treatment procedures.
- Provides general nursing care such as positioning patient; lifting and turning patients; applying/utilizing special equipment; assisting in use of bedpan, urinal or commode; ambulating the patient; pre-operative and post-operative care; and application of abdominal blinders or anti-embolism stockings.
- Accurately obtains and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure and intake/output measurements.
- Prepares patients for meals, serve and remove food trays, and assist with meals or feed patients. Records amount of intake on nurse assistant sheets.
- Distribute drinking water and other nourishments to patients.
- Checks for reddened areas or skin breakdown and reports to RN or LPN.
- Assist nurse in properly applying and releasing restraints for patients according to policy when ordered by physician.
- Answers patient call lights, anticipates patients’ needs, and makes rounds to assigned patients.
- Assists patients with handling and care of clothing and other personal property (including dentures, glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, prosthetic devices) throughout their hospital stay.
- Collects and transports specimens to the correct departments.
- Transports patients to and from various departments as requested.
- Reports (and when appropriate, records) any changes observed in condition or behavior of patients and unusual incidents.
- Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment by cleaning Utility Rooms, cleaning equipment and preparing for disinfection or sterilization, reporting and removing equipment form service that is out of order, reporting other problems to Charge Nurse, appropriate handling and labeling of clean and dirty linen and stores supplies on the unit.
- Practices careful, efficient and non-wasteful use of supplies and linen and follows established charge procedure for patient charge items.
- Assists in orientation of new employees as requested.
- May be assigned as staffing requires to all areas of care including Medical/Surgical, Skilled care, ICU/CCU, Obstetrical, Nursery, Emergency Room, PAR, or OP Services.
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings / in-services, Brodstone Healthcare quality improvement program, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
