To: All Teaching and Administrative PersonnelBrockton Public SchoolsFrom: Kathleen Moran, Ed.D.Executive Director of Human ResourcesSubject: Beginner ESL Curriculum Review Team Introduction: We are seeking Beginner ESL teachers and TBE/SEI Teachers to participate in an ESL Curriculum Review Team focused on strengthening and refining the Beginner ESL curriculum. This team will collaborate to review current materials, align instruction to WIDA 2020 standards, and support the development of high-quality instructional resources that meet the needs of emergent multilingual learners (MLs). This opportunity is ideal for teachers who are passionate about supporting emergent MLs and want to contribute to district curriculum development.Objective: The primary objective of the Beginner ESL Curriculum Review Team is to collaboratively strengthen and refine student-centered instructional materials that integrate content and language, aligned to the WIDA 2020 Standards, and reflect research-based practices that accelerate academic language development for emergent multilingual learners.Minimum Qualifications: Experience in effective instruction in Grades 6-8Knowledge of second language acquisition and best practices for multilingual learnersAbility to collaborate effectively with colleagues to ensure equitable access to high-quality curriculum and instruction and to meet deadlines.Have experience teaching emergent multilingual learners.Preferred: Experience participating in steering committees and writing WIDA-aligned curriculumBe a licensed Middle School teacher, Building administrator, or English Language Acquisition coach Job Requirements: Review the current Beginner ESL Instructional materials (iLIT)Provide feedback on materials to ensure alignment with WIDA 2020 Standards and DESE ESL HQIM RubricIdentify strengths, gaps, and opportunities to improve instructional materials for emergent Multilingual learnersContribute to the creation of teacher guidance and instructional resources.Share classroom insights and student needs to inform curriculum decisions.Engage in ongoing professional learning of research-based best practices for ESL instruction.Collaborate and maintain regular communication with the K8 Department Head of Bilingual Education, Jennifer Hunter.Meeting Dates: TBD (The first meeting will be held in person; all subsequent meetings will take place virtually.)Funding Source: 181 GrantCompensation: All participants will be compensated for their work in accordance with contractual guidelines.
