Brockton Public Schools is seeking an innovative, visionary executive to serve as its next Assistant Superintendent for Finance, Strategy and Operations. We are looking for a proven leader who can oversee a budget exceeding $250 million while redesigning systems, modernizing operations, strengthening policy, and ensuring that every financial decision advances student success. The successful candidate will be a member of the Superintendent's Executive Leadership Team and serve as a strategic partner in shaping the future of Brockton Public Schools. About Brockton Public Schools Brockton Public Schools serves approximately 16,000 students across 23 schools and employs more than 2,500 educators and staff. The Opportunity We are seeking an executive with demonstrated success leading large, complex organizations through change. The ideal candidate has a proven record of: •Managing budgets exceeding $250 million •Leading strategic financial planning •Designing and implementing organizational systems •Modernizing financial operations and business processes •Developing effective policy and governance structures •Improving efficiency through operational redesign •Building strong internal controls and accountability systems •Leading high-performing teams through organizational change This is a role for someone who understands that great financial leadership is measured not only by balanced budgets—but by stronger systems, better decisions, improved services, and increased opportunities for students. Position Summary The Assistant Superintendent for Finance serves as the District's chief executive responsible for financial leadership, operational strategy, organizational systems, and continuous improvement. Working closely with the Superintendent, School Committee, municipal leadership, and district administrators, this executive will oversee all financial operations while leading districtwide initiatives that improve organizational effectiveness. Massachusetts recognizes Assistant Superintendents for Finance as strategic district leaders whose responsibilities extend beyond finance to include policy development, long-range planning, and executive leadership. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership •Serve as chief advisor to the Superintendent on all financial and operational matters. •Develop and implement long-range financial strategies aligned with district priorities. •Lead organizational improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability. •Partner with district leadership to ensure financial decisions support instructional priorities. Financial Stewardship •Direct development and administration of the District's annual operating and capital budgets. •Oversee financial forecasting and multi-year planning. •Monitor expenditures and revenue to ensure long-term fiscal stability. •Present financial reports, analyses, and recommendations to the Superintendent and School Committee. •Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations. Systems, Policy, and Organizational Redesign •Evaluate, redesign, and modernize financial and operational systems. •Lead continuous improvement initiatives that eliminate inefficiencies and improve service delivery. •Develop districtwide financial policies, procedures, and internal controls. •Build transparent reporting systems and performance dashboards. •Implement technology solutions that improve business operations and decision-making. •Strengthen accountability through standardized processes and measurable outcomes. Operations Provide executive leadership for: •Finance and Accounting •Budget Development •Grants Management •Procurement and Purchasing •Payroll •Accounts Payable and Receivable •Food Services •Financial Reporting •Audit Management •Contract Administration •Risk Management •Capital Planning Leadership and Collaboration •Lead and develop high-performing finance and operations teams. •Collaborate with City officials, auditors, legal counsel, and state agencies. •Support collective bargaining through financial analysis and forecasting. •Build strong partnerships with principals, department leaders, and community stakeholders. Qualifications Required •Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field. •Massachusetts School Business Administrator License or eligibility. •Minimum seven years of progressively responsible executive leadership in finance, operations, or public administration. •Demonstrated experience managing large, complex organizational budgets. •Experience leading organizational redesign and systems improvement. •Outstanding leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills. •Exceptional analytical and strategic planning abilities. Preferred •Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or related field. •Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing Official (MCPPO) certification or eligibility. •CPA, MBA, MPA, or similar professional credential. •Experience within Massachusetts public education or municipal government. •Experience implementing enterprise financial systems such as MUNIS or comparable ERP platforms.
