POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Nurse, in conjunction with the Charge Nurse, is responsible for maintaining optimal day to day operations of the Obstetrics Department.

*Maintains a patient centered environment including but not limited to:
**Provision of care and advocate for all OB/ GYN patients and their families based on prudent nursing judgment and acceptable standards of practice.
**Ensures that adequate medical as well as psychosocial needs are met.
*Performs tasks and procedures within the scope of a nursing practice and legal guidelines of the Nurse Practice Act. Adheres to the Board of Registration in Nursing Regulations.
*Is budget conscious and maintains continual effectiveness without compromise.
*Is a valuable resource for staff, students and Interns

Assists with Charge Nurse duties and fills in as charge nurse as needed, able to provide floor coverage as needed.

Provides direct supervision and management of Medical Assistants including but not limited to timecard management, performance evaluations, team huddles, etc.

Functions as the Assistant Vaccine Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
The Lead Nurse may be called upon to assist the Charge nurse with the following tasks:

Assists Charge Nurse with supervision of nursing staff in the department, with focus on Medical Assistants

Assists with staffing and scheduling needs.

Works with other charge nurses for staff coverage as needed.
-
Oversees the flow of patients into the clinical area, reassigns staff and room assignment as needed.
-
As designated by Charge Nurse, functions as a liaison for external organizations.
-
Able to work with a provider and perform duties of triage nurse.

Adequately documents patient information in the electronic medical record and able to perform pool management in EPIC
-
Assists with the assignment of staff lunches and assures that staff have appropriate lunch breaks with minimal exceptions.

Assists with Vaccine Management through monitoring inventory, performing proper storage, handling and ordering of vaccines.
-
Attends vaccine conference when needed, in order to stay current on vaccines.
-
Interacts with supply, and vaccine/drug representative(s).

Delegates tasks and assignments appropriately

Participates on committees and represents the Ob/ Gyn department

Assist with creating, and rolling out of workflows
-
Knowledgeable with the electronic Health record, Microsoft apps and the program systems for collaborative partners ( Good Sam, BH, BMC, and Quest)

Other functions related to the nursing department as needed.
QUALITY ASSURANCE IMPROVEMENT:

Quality Assurance monitoring- Participates in betterment of the health center through studies and reviews as necessary.

Participates on committees/ meetings as delegated by Nursing Leadership

Participates in reviewing workflows, protocols, and procedures.

Assists with ongoing Quality Improvement activities including but not limited to conducting Joint Commission tracers, staff education, and reviewing quality through the lens of value-based care.

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
*Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
*Current state license to practice in Massachusetts.
*Maintains minimal amount of CEUs as required for nursing licensure.
*Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) certified.
*Must have leadership experience or capacity.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in a busy community health center in a downtown business district. Long hours are sometimes required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical demands requiring lifting of small pieces of equipment, boxes, and/or patients not to exceed forty (40) pounds. Mostly standing and walking required. Visual acuity sufficient for frequent reading. Hearing acuity sufficient for holding conversation with or without audio devices.
