Position Overview
The Food Safety Compliance Administrator is responsible for the administration, documentation, and monitoring of the company’s established food safety and regulatory compliance programs.
This role ensures that all HACCP, SSOP, sanitation, and regulatory documentation is properly maintained and that the company remains audit-ready and compliant with USDA, FDA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements governing meat processing operations.
The position works closely with plant operations, quality assurance, and management to ensure food safety procedures are consistently followed, documented, and aligned with evolving regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Food Safety Program Administration
- Administer and maintain the company’s established HACCP, SSOP, and food safety programs
- Ensure all food safety documentation and records are accurate, complete, and audit-ready
- Monitor daily compliance with established food safety and sanitation procedures
- Track, document, and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Maintain food safety documentation systems, including electronic and physical records
- Verify implementation and effectiveness of critical control points (CCPs) and prerequisite programs
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), FDA, and state/local regulatory requirements specific to meat processing and imports/exports
- Maintain thorough knowledge of regulatory standards, including HACCP regulations (9 CFR Part 417), SSOP requirements (9 CFR Part 416), and other applicable food safety laws
- Serve as a point of contact during USDA inspections and regulatory audits
- Ensure documentation, logs, and records are accurate, current, and readily accessible for review
- Monitor regulatory updates and communicate changes in requirements to internal stakeholders
- Assist in implementing regulatory changes into plant procedures, policies, and documentation
- Support product traceability, labeling compliance, and recall readiness in accordance with regulatory requirements and Broadleaf’s recall process
- Ensure compliance with allergen control, sanitation, and pathogen control programs
Audit Preparation
- Maintain continuous audit readiness for USDA inspections and third-party audits (e.g., SQF, BRC)
- Coordinate and support internal audits, mock recalls, and compliance assessments
- Ensure all documentation required for regulatory and certification audits is complete, properly maintained, and readily accessible
- Assist in responding to audit findings and implementing corrective actions
Monitoring & Reporting
- Track and analyze key food safety and regulatory compliance metrics
- Prepare detailed compliance reports for management and regulatory review
- Identify deviations from regulatory and food safety requirements and escalate issues appropriately
- Support trend analysis to identify recurring compliance risks and recommend improvements
Training & Communication
- Assist in developing and delivering food safety and regulatory compliance training for appropriate personnel
- Communicate regulatory requirements, procedural updates, and documentation expectations clearly to staff
- Work cross-functionally with operations, sanitation, and quality teams to ensure consistent adherence to compliance standards
- Promote a culture of food safety, regulatory awareness, and accountability
- Implement continuous improvements in the food safety and regulatory compliance by staying informed of updates and compliance requirements from the various agencies.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience working in food manufacturing or meat processing environments
- Working knowledge of HACCP principles and food safety systems
- Familiarity with USDA (FSIS) and FDA regulatory requirements
- Strong documentation, recordkeeping, and organizational skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- HACCP Certification
Preferred
- Experience with SQF, BRC, or other GFSI-recognized certification programs
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field
- Experience maintaining regulatory documentation and supporting audits in a USDA-inspected facility
