POSTED ON 1/6/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/6/2026
Description & Requirements
The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is one of the world's leading biomedical research institutes. Our mission is to propel the understanding of the biological roots of human disease, with the aim of improving diagnostics and therapeutics for patients worldwide. Founded in 2004, the Broad Institute includes faculty, professional staff, and students from throughout the MIT and Harvard biomedical research communities, with collaborations spanning the globe.

The Broad's Development Office is recruiting for a Senior Science Writer to join our nimble, fast-paced, and dynamic team. Their main focus is to create high-quality and compelling stewardship reports, fundraising proposals, concept papers, and other materials. The ideal candidate must be adept at translating science into elegant but lay-friendly language under intense deadline pressure and be able to handle multiple projects at the same time. We are looking for someone with an advanced degree in science who is equally passionate about science and storytelling. They have an eye for detail and are zealous about accuracy, grammar, and good writing. They are voracious readers with a wide-ranging curiosity, keen intellect, and hunger to learn. They do not mind being edited by multiple stakeholders and view edits as learning opportunities. They are organized and independent, but also relish teamwork and pitching in when it's all hands on deck. They thrive on collaboration, working closely with senior faculty as well as frontline fundraisers in shaping scientific proposals, concept papers, and stewardship materials.

Typical responsibilities include (and are not limited to):

  • Writing and editing stewardship reports, proposals, and concept papers in partnership with scientists, frontline fundraisers, the Director of Development - Development Communications, and other team members.
  • Overseeing writing, editing, and production timelines of stewardship reports; developing and executing other stewardship materials, including videos.
  • Conceptualizing and producing materials needed for events, including talking points.
  • Assisting with other projects as needed or assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in the life sciences, with at least eight years of experience in science or medical writing, with a strong preference for experience in development writing.
  • Extraordinary writing skills, with a proven track record of being able to produce clear, compelling, and accurate copy quickly.
  • Strong work ethic and track record as a team player.
  • Editing experience-including line-editing, copy-editing, and proofreading-and knowledge of the AP Style Guide are major pluses.
  • Diplomatic skills and sense of humor.

All applications require a cover letter and recent writing samples.
