The Office of Strategic Alliances & Partnering (OSAP) focuses on industrial partnerships, material transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements, IP strategy, patents, and licensing to start-ups and industry partners. Reporting to the Senior Director, Business Development and Licensing, the Licensing Associate plays a key role in managing communications, inquiries, and activities in a fast-paced, high-volume business development environment. The role supports the Senior Director in evaluating, protecting, and licensing intellectual property, and works collaboratively across OSAP to establish industry collaborations. Responsibilities include case triage, market research, partner outreach, and handling the business side of patent case management — coordinating with stakeholders to help move faculty inventions toward commercialization.

The position offers an opportunity to have substantial exposure and contribution to the vibrant technology driven innovation ecosystem at Broad, work closely with leading research scientists, entrepreneurs, and partner with BD professionals, transaction attorneys, and patent attorneys on matters related to patents and collaboration and licensing agreements.

The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, qualifications, and other factors permissible by law.

Key Responsibilities
- Support technology evaluation and assess new inventions, research outputs, and creative portfolios for commercial viability
- Help identify potential licensees and commercialization opportunities
- Intake and respond to initial business development inquiries; gather relevant licensing and collaboration interest information
- Work with the BD team to market portfolio assets and build relationships with industry partners and faculty
- Support role in educating and advising academic researchers on collaboration and licensing matters
- Support role in drafting correspondence, term sheets, license/collaboration agreements, and marketing materials
- Collaborate with the contracts team and transaction counsel on agreements
- Work across internal teams to ensure compliance with licensing practices; participate in stakeholder meetings (faculty, sponsors, joint owners)
- Monitor research collaborations and licensing transactions to ensure compliance
- Support senior BD team members with additional tasks as needed
- A MS or Ph.D degree in science or engineering preferred.
- At least one year of related experience in university technology transfer office or fast- paced, high-volume organization is preferred.
- Entrepreneurial, self-starter, and highly independent.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, manage time effectively, and work in a fast-paced, complex environment.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills (both verbal and written) and ability to quickly, clearly, and succinctly communicate complex issues with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills. Good judgment and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to quickly communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly.
- Detailed and deadline-oriented self-starter who enjoys working both independently and collaboratively and thrives in an environment that encourages strategic thinking.
- Excellent people skills and ability to work in a team environment. Ability to interact with a wide range of people and personalities.
- Experience working with Excel and data/database management systems as well as AI/ML tools such as Claude and Gemini.
- A passion for the Broad’s mission of propelling the understanding of disease forward and working with a diverse group of professionals.
