JOB PURPOSE
The Primary School Guidance Counselor will design, implement, evaluate, and enhance comprehensive school counseling programs involvingdevelopmental, preventive, remedial and responsive services. These services address the academic and personal/social development of all primary school students and will promote and enhance student success.

MEASUREMENT OF PERFORMANCE
Direct and Indirect Responsibilities
● Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs
● Assists all students, individually or in groups, within the primary school division with developing academic, and personal/social skills, goals, and plans
● Acts as the division’s safeguarding liaison
● Works in partnership with Learning Specialists and Administration to determine whether a student requires social/emotional support or academic support or both
● Works in coordination with Learning Specialists in the Student Support Team referral and follow-up process
● Communicates the goals of the counseling program to administrators, teachers, students, and parents
● Consults and collaborates effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs
● Manages the advisory program for the primary school
● Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS – Skills Knowledge and Experience
Qualifications and Training
● Master’s degree or higher in counseling, social work, or other mental health related field
● LPC, LCSW license (Preferred)
● School Adjustment License (Preferred)
● Experience working with children in some clinical capacity, particularly of the primary school age range
● Experience working in a school setting (Preferred)
● Experience in group and individual counseling
● Experience presenting to both small and large groups about primary school aged behaviors and development
