Job Summary
Provides direct therapeutic recreation services to facility residents assuring that individual leisure, creative, spiritual, and psycho-social needs are met through both group and one-to-one service delivery. Functions as a cooperative member of the interdisciplinary team, sharing resident progress in verbal and written formats.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Performs duties involving the implementation of activity programs, which meets physical, mental, psychosocial needs and interests of residents. The employee is required to be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position.
- Responsible for the planning of activities to meet resident’s specific needs, to include large group, small group, and individual participation as scheduled
- Maintain documentation as required by State and Federal regulations and attendance book.
- Assures personal and staff compliance to Resident’s Rights.
- Responsible for initial assessments
Education/Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma. Enrollment within six months of employment in a Connecticut Certificate program in therapeutic recreation and continuing participation in a minimum of one course per semester to completion.
State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:
Certified by the State of Connecticut as a Therapeutic Recreation Director or enrollment in a therapeutic recreation accreditation program.
Qualifications
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Hospital. IM Orientation.
Special Requirements:
Excellent interpersonal skills. Must enjoy working with geriatric population. Must demonstrate creativity, adaptability, sensitivity and patience when interacting with staff and residents. Must take initiative. Availability to work some evenings, weekends and holidays. Consistently demonstrates high level of professionalism. Vision, hearing, smell and tactile sensation corrected or accommodated to normal.
Physical Requirements:
Work Environment:
Works directly with facility residents, families, entertainment groups and volunteers. Some exposure to body fluids and toxic chemicals. Various working conditions inside and outside the facility.
Cognitive Requirements:
Must be able to read, write and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to interpret resident’s requests. Good hearing and excellent listening skills.
