Carries out a wide variety of highly skilled grounds keeping operations/activities. Assists with work in other trade areas as assigned. Plans, directs and participates in snow removal activities.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Provides landscaping services for Facility grounds.
lAssumes responsibility for the lay out, installation and maintenance of lawns and a variety of trees, shrubs and flowers on all hospital properties. Plants grass seed and lays sod. Determines need for fertilizers, weed killers and other lawn care products; and arranges for purchase and appropriate application/use.
- Arranges schedules for watering, mowing, weeding and other lawn upkeep activities. As circumstances require, takes steps to save or revive plantings afflicted by dry weather, weeds, grubs or other problems; by modifying maintenance and upkeep activities. Consults with outside lawn care and/or landscaping specialists, as required, to assure maintaining the attractive appearance of all outside hospital properties.
Provides for snow and ice removal.
- Responsible for coordinating ice and snow removal; including assigning snow removal crew to specified lots, roadways, sidewalks, etc.; in consultation with supervisor. Operates snow removal equipment.
Performs maintenance and repairs.
- Performs a variety of maintenance, repair and related tasks in other trade areas, as assigned; and in keeping with qualifications to expedite completion of projects. May be required to carry out a variety of masonry, and other plastering and taping tasks. Performs routine maintenance and repair of grounds keeping and snow removal equipment.
Performs related duties as required.
- Remains available for call-in to deal with emergencies or other unusual circumstances, and performs additional related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
Educational / Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma. our years in landscaping, related trades and landscape management.
State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:
None
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Hospital/Ingraham Manor.
Special Requirements:
Good mechanical aptitude, familiarity with tools, equipment in various trade areas.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift over 35 lbs. Extended standing and walking. Frequent lifting of moderate to heavy objects.
Work Environment:
Prolonged exposure to outdoor elements such as heat, cold, ice, snow and indoor construction conditions.
Cognitive Requirements:
Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers.
