POSITION TITLE: Full-Time Faculty- English (Tenure-Track; Open Rank - Assistant Professor or Associate Professor)
DEPARTMENT: School of Languages, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
REPORTS TO: Dean of the School of Languages, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River, but courses may also be offered in online, hybrid, or face-to-face modalities in Attleboro, New Bedford, and/or Taunton.
POSITION STATUS: Full-time, tenure track, MCCC/MTA unit position with benefits. Spring Semester Hire.
SALARY: $52,880 - 70,103 - actual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
English Faculty will teach a full-time (15 credit hours per semester) schedule of English courses, primarily including developmental and first-year Composition classes, to a diverse student population. Courses may be held in the classroom at our Fall River, New Bedford, Attleboro, and Taunton locations; in the hybrid or online environment; and/or via other modalities as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide instruction, and when appropriate, design English courses, including but not limited to developmental and first-year Composition courses.
- Teach face-to-face as well as hybrid, and online modalities.
- Assess student learning and assign grades through equitable and inclusive pedagogies and assessment strategies.
- Adhere to workload as specified in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, including duties such as, but not limited to, developing curricula to address course and student learning outcomes and General Education competencies as appropriate, completing book orders, creating syllabi, verifying student enrollment, and submitting final grades by the contractual deadline.
- Foster student success across the college's diverse student body, and address equity gaps, through innovative teaching and learning approaches as well as curriculum development.
- Incorporate High-Impact Practices (HIPs} into curricular and pedagogical approaches, with emphasis on HIPs that provide students with real-world experiences such as Service-Learning and internship opportunities.
- Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students.
- Post and maintain a minimum of four (4} office hours per week.
- Serve on college committees as elected or appointed.
- Attend program, department, academic area, all-college and committee/council meetings.
- Recommend suitable instructional material, textbooks, and library acquisitions.
- Participate in the assessment of course and program learning outcomes.
- Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues, to teach online as needed, and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate.
- Engage in professional development activities through participation in conferences, workshops, seminars, and professional associations to maintain excellence in the discipline and in the classroom.
- Demonstrate a sense of professionalism and consistently reflect Bristol's core values while interacting with members of the Bristol community.
- Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
- Actively participate in the general college community and fulfill duties as stipulated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Complete required training such as, but not limited to, Title IX, FERPA, and Information Security.
- Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Job Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a Master's degree in English or Professional Writing, or a Master of Fine Arts in Writing.
- Minimum of two (2} years of teaching experience at the college/university level.
- Demonstrated experience with online instruction and/or virtual training experience within a Learning Management System (i.e., Canvas, Blackboard}.
- Demonstrated experience in curricular planning and assessment, as well as demonstrated use of innovative educational learning techniques and technologies to enhance student learning.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven technological proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
- Able to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctorate in English or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience teaching at a community college.
- Demonstrated area of expertise/advanced scholarship in composition theory, developmental reading and/or writing, literature or rhetoric.
- Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate artificial intelligence tools for the teaching of writing.
- Demonstrated success in working with non-native speakers of English and students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated versatility in teaching a range of courses offered by the English Department, particularly in Composition and developmental or co-requisite English courses.
- Demonstrated use of materials and assignments designed to improve the writing and critical thinking skills of students, as well as the use of assignments to incorporate multicultural perspectives.
- Demonstrated ability lo use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies to promote and evaluate student learning.
- Demonstrated experience working on committees and within teams.
- Demonstrated commitment to closing equity gaps.
- Willingness to explore high-impact practices (HIPs) pedagogies such as service-learning, learning communities, and distance learning.
- Experience in community college student advising and curriculum development.
- Certifications or licenses, if applicable.
- Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
