POSITION TITLE: Adjunct Faculty - BASIC EMT Instructor/Instructor Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Education Programs (STEM-E)
REPORTS TO: Dean of STEM-E or designee
POSITION STATUS: MCCC/DCE unit position, non-benefitted. Adjunct Faculty are part-time instructors hired on an as needed basis. Courses may be offered in online, hybrid, or face-to-face modalities in Attleboro, Fall River, New Bedford, and/or Taunton. Courses may be held during the day, in the evening, and on weekends (Friday nights, Saturdays, and Sundays). Please note: Positions will be available pending sufficient enrollment.
STARTING DATE: Academic Year 2026-2027
SALARY: Minimum salary is $1,446 per credit hour. Actual salary is commensurate with the DCE Collective Bargaining Agreement.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Bristol Community College seeks a qualified, student-centered professional to serve as a Part-Time BASIC Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Instructor/Instructor Coordinator (IC) within the Fire Science Program. Adjunct Faculty - BASIC EMT positions will be responsible for, but not limited to developing and delivering curriculum/course Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) - approved EMT education in accordance with the Massachusetts OEMS regulations, the National EMS Education Standards, and Bristol Community College polices and practices. This position also offers student support through varied interactions. Adjunct Faculty will engage in a critical role in the teaching and learning process, contributing to student learning outcomes and success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the Massachusetts OEMS-approved Instructor Coordinator for assigned EMT education programs.
  • Plan, organize, and deliver EMT Basic courses in compliance with Massachusetts OEMS regulations and National EMS Education Standards.
  • Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that meet OEMS and College requirements.
  • Provide classroom, laboratory, simulation, and practical skills instruction using evidence-based educational practices.
  • Evaluate student knowledge, psychomotor skills, and professional behaviors through equitable and inclusive pedagogies, written examinations, practical evaluations, and competency assessments.
  • Maintain all course records, attendance, grades, evaluations, and documentation required by Bristol Community College and the Massachusetts OEMS.
  • Ensure instructional equipment, simulation supplies, and training resources are maintained and utilized in accordance with program standards.
  • Foster a learning environment that promotes professionalism, ethical practice, diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.
  • Collaborate with the Fire Science Program Coordinator and EMS program Administrator on course scheduling, curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintain all required instructor credentials and participate in ongoing professional development to remain current with EMS education and clinical practice.
  • Comply with all applicable College policies, Massachusetts OEMS regulations, and state and federal requirements.
  • Contribute to a climate of multicultural empowerment, affirmation, understanding, and appreciation.
  • Create an effective learning environment that fosters students' intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies and High Impact Practices.
  • Help students reach their academic, personal and professional goals and foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student's ability to learn.
  • Complete required trainings such as, but not limited to, Title IX, FERPA, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Information Security.
  • Adhere to workload as specified in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, to include duties such as, but not limited to, completing book orders, creating syllabi, verifying student enrollment, and submitting final grades by the contractual deadline.
  • Be available to students either virtually or in person for assistance meeting course requirements and supporting student academic success.
  • Be willing to teach in the Dual Enrollment program or Early College at the surrounding high schools.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Job Requirements:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

  • Current Massachusetts EMT Basic or higher certification in good standing.
  • Current Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) Instructor Coordinator (IC) credential.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS/CPR Instructor Certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in emergency medical services, with demonstrated proficiency in patient care and emergency response.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current EMS education principles, National EMS Education Standards, and Massachusetts OEMS regulations.
  • Experience teaching EMS personnel or healthcare professionals.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively teach and support students from diverse educational, cultural, and professional backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree and/or Bachelor's degree in Emergency Medical Services, Fire Science, Education, Public Safety, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching as an OEMS Instructor Coordinator.
  • National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) Basic certification or higher.
  • Experience with simulation-based education and learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle).

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a part-time, non-benefited adjunct instructional position. Courses are typically scheduled during days, evenings and weekends, with additional time required for skills laboratories, clinical coordination, and program administration as needed. It is expected that this position will assist with the OEMS Practical exam.
