Job Summary

Mobile Phlebotomist

The Mobile Phlebotomist reports to the Phlebotomy Manager and is responsible for performing mobile phlebotomy, specimen collection, laboratory accessioning, processing, documentation, and transportation services at client facilities, outpatient locations, and laboratory sites. This role includes accessioning specimens into the laboratory information system, operating laboratory equipment, interacting compassionately and effectively with diverse patient populations, ensuring specimen integrity and regulatory compliance, and safely operating company-owned vehicles to transport specimens, supplies, and equipment between locations in Nevada.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs high-volume venipunctures, capillary punctures, and other specimen collections in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Operates handheld devices and loads specimens on laboratory instrumentation (e.g. centrifuge) following approved protocols and competency requirements.
  • Confirms patient identity, follows test-specific protocols, accurately labels all specimens at the point of collection, and documents required collection information.
  • Demonstrates the ability to compassionately and effectively interact with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs, and behaviors.
  • Handles, processes, and prepares biological specimens for laboratory analysis, including microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and chemistry.
  • Reviews outstanding specimen and collection logs for laboratory, microbiology, and blood bank during assigned shifts, identifies uncollected or delayed tests, and takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Processes specimens for referral to reference laboratories, ensuring proper packaging, documentation, and chain-of-custody compliance.
  • Accurately processes outpatient and facility orders, provides instructions and collection supplies as needed, and ensures compliance with turnaround time requirements.
  • Communicates, documents, and follows up on unclear, incomplete, or discrepant orders and escalates issues to the Supervisor or Director as appropriate.
  • Performs clerical and data entry tasks accurately using the laboratory information system and other computerized systems.
  • Maintains accurate phlebotomy logs, specimen tracking records, and meal and break documentation.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of work areas, storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, handheld devices, and vehicles.
  • Operates personal vehicle to travel between client sites, patient locations, and laboratory facilities, transporting specimens, supplies, and equipment in a safe manner, compliant with state and local laws.
  • May assist with training, coaching, and the development of coworkers and students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must take all assigned Human Resources and department trainings and classes.
  • Responsible for attending all department and staff meetings.

Qualifications

  • Highschool Diploma or GED.
  • State of Nevada Lab Assistant License, required.
  • NHA License, required
  • Previous experience in behavioral healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility, preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with Department of Vehicles and Company vehicle policies and automobile insurance requirements.

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
