Custom electronics manufacturer in Sparks, Maryland, is seeking a Optical Fabrication Technician to produce high-quality optical components for commercial food and pharmaceutical customers, defense contractors, testing laboratories, and NASA Moon, Mars, and Venus programs, as well as for prototype development for the R&D/new product development team.
Responsibilities
This position is critical to the timely completion of a strong backlog of orders that must be met in order to satisfy customers. The successful candidate will be able to multi-task under time pressure with high-quality workmanship, strong organizational skills, accurate and complete record-keeping, and attention to detail.Responsibilities* Without direct supervision, fabricate, grind and/or polish precision optical components (e.g. TeO2, GAP, Amtir, Crystal Quartz, Indium Phosphide) using a variety of equipment.* Grind and polish optics on conventional spindles, continuous grinders and polishers.* Perform blocking and unblocking of parts.* Make improvements to existing products and processes, and guide the implementation of new products and processes.* Verify accuracy of finished product, as well as support processes and product development.* Ensure quality and standardization while contributing to improvements in effectiveness and efficiency.* Ability to work safely on fragile, high-value optics.* Measure optical components for conformance to specifications.* Notify supervisor of discrepancies.* Follow English written and verbal work instructions that describe the processes and the required measurements.* Verify settings by regularly measuring parts before and after changes are made.
Qualifications
Qualifications* Familiarity with using the following measurement tools: micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, and pH meters.* Can observe and respond to people and situations and interact with others encountered in the course of work.* Can learn and apply new information or skills.* Ability to complete assignments with attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.* Ability to perform effectively in a demanding environment with changing workloads and deadlines.* Identify bottlenecks and drive improvements.* Work independently or as part of a team and follow through on assignments with minimal supervision.* Demonstrate open, clear, concise and professional communication.* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with manager, co-workers
Experience and Transportation Requirements:
* Two (2) years optical fabrication experience* Strong analytical skills – capable of translating requirements into executable schedule.* Cross train and support cross functional groups.* Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities.* Ability to effectively communicate one on one and in small groups to operators, management and engineers.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
