Position Summary:
The Residential Support Staff member is responsible for nurturing and developing a healthy, happy, and safe environment for up to 4 semi-independent residents living in BrightStone's Mens Home. The home is located on BrightStone's beautiful 140 acre campus in Franklin off Columbia Pike.
First shift hours are 6:00 am to 2:30 pm and includes working in our day program and assisting where needed with students.
Second shift hours are M-Th 2:00 pm - 10:30pm, Sunday 4:00 pm - 10:30 pm.
Third shift hours Sun - Thur 10:00 pm - 6:30 am requires awake care. Though our high functioning residents do not require much assistance at night, must be available when needed.
PLEASE SPECIFY WHICH SHIFT YOU ARE APPLYING FOR. START DATE FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY. WE HAVE WEEKEND RESIDENTIAL POSITIONS AVAILABLE NOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, WORKING 1 - 2 WEEKENDS A MONTH THAT WOULD ALLOW YOU TRAIN NOW AND TRANSITION INTO SHIFT POSITION IN JANUARY.
The position also requires driving a BrightStone vehicle to transport residents when needed, typically only within a small radius of campus. Background screening and drug test required for employment.
Job Duties:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned as needed for the success of the home.
FIRST SHIFT
- Arrive at 6 am to ensure a smooth transition of care between shifts
- Assist residents as needed in waking and preparing for their day
- Supervise daily hygiene routines for residents
- Assist and /or prepare the morning meals for residents
- Supervise residents in independent self-care habits
- Manage all medication plans in the home, based on the appropriate level of support and as directed by the resident’s ISP, with direction and oversight from the BrightStone nurse
- Maintain cleanliness of the property and notify Home Manager and Program Director of necessary repairs and maintenance
- Provide transportation using a BrightStone vehicle to residents' place of employment (as needed)
- Accompany residents to the BrightStone Day Program and act as additional classroom support until 2 PM
- Confidentially manage all resident files, documenting all required information as per licensure
- Report all instances of suspected and/or witnessed acts of abuse or neglect toward a resident to the Residential Coordinator and Program Director
- Other duties set forth by the Residential Coordinator or Director of Programs
SECOND SHIFT
- Arrive on time to support a smooth and effective transition of care between shifts
- Foster a positive environment by engaging residents in afternoon and evening activities
- Supervise daily hygiene routines for residents
- Prepare the evening meals for residents
- Supervise residents in independent self-care habits
- Manage all medication plans in the home, based on the appropriate level of support and as directed by the resident’s ISP, with direction and oversight from the BrightStone nurse
- Maintain cleanliness of the property and notify Home Manager and Program Director of necessary repairs and maintenance
- Provide transportation using a BrightStone vehicle to community outings and/or places of employment
- Pick up residents from the BrightStone Day Program (next door to home) and/or place of employment
- Confidentially manage all resident files, documenting all required information as per licensure
- Report all instances of suspected and/or witnessed acts of abuse or neglect toward a resident to the Residential Coordinator and Program Director
- Other duties set forth by the Residential Coordinator or Director of Programs
THIRD SHIFT
- Arrive on time to support a smooth and effective transition of care between shifts
- Supervise daily hygiene routines for residents
- Supervise residents in independent self-care habits
- Monitor residents' safety and well-being throughout the night
- Respond promptly to residents' needs, including overnight support or emergencies
- Conduct regular safety checks
- Manage all medication plans in the home, based on the appropriate level of support and as directed by the resident’s ISP, with direction and oversight from the BrightStone nurse
- Follow individual support plans and behavioral protocols
- Complete required documentation and nightly progress notes
- Maintain cleanliness of the property and notify Home Manager and Program Director of necessary repairs and maintenance
- Confidentially manage all resident files, documenting all required information asper licensure
- Report all instances of suspected and/or witnessed acts of abuse or neglect toward a resident to the Residential Coordinator and Program Director
- Other duties set forth by the Residential Coordinator or Director of Programs
Position Qualifications:
- Energetic and creative attitude with strong client-relation skills; enthusiasm for the mission of BrightStone and willingness to fully contribute to a team-oriented, fast- paced organization
- Strong time management skills; must be self-motivated
- Ability to drive an 8-passenger van
- Ability to perform and/or be trained in CPR and other First-Aid procedures
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Communicate clearly utilizing verbal and written skills
- Possess analytical problem-solving and sound judgment skills
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Trainings Required (provided by BrightStone):
- CPR and First Aid
- Medication Management
- Title 6 Discrimination Training
- Abuse, Fall, and Accident Training
- Reportable Events Training (self-paced)
- Additional trainings as determined by the Director of Programs to ensure a secure and welcoming home environment
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
