What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Manufacturing Operations position at Brightsmith?
Director of Manufacturing
Pittsburgh, PA (On-site)
We’re partnering with a fast-growing, innovative company in the residential energy space. Due to continued growth, they’re hiring a Director of Manufacturing to take ownership of production and help scale operations quickly and effectively.
The Role
This is a hands-on leadership position focused on building and running manufacturing operations during a critical scale-up phase.
You’ll:
- Lead assembly operations
- Own production schedules, quality, and output
- Manage and grow a team of 8–10
- Drive delivery against ambitious targets (~700 systems this year)
- Build structure from the ground up (processes, KPIs, reporting)
- Identify bottlenecks and implement practical improvements
This role sits at the heart of the business—what gets built and shipped will define success.
What they’re looking for
- Strong background in manufacturing/production leadership
- Experience in contract manufacturing or similar environments
- Comfortable with electromechanical assembly, build & test
- Someone still close to the shop floor (not removed from day-to-day ops)
- A hands-on operator who can build systems—not just talk about them
The environment
- High-growth, fast-paced, and execution-focused
- Early-stage manufacturing setup—you’ll be building the structure from scratch
- Moving towards 7-day operations, so flexibility is key
- On-site presence required (5 days/week in Pittsburgh)
Why it’s interesting
- Newly created role with real ownership and visibility
- Opportunity to build and shape manufacturing operations
- Direct impact on a major U.S. product launch
- Ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, driving output, and being in the detail
