Brightpoint Community College is seeking qualified applicants for the Professional Advisor position, dedicated to supporting student success. This role involves advising continuing students, providing transfer support, and engaging in outreach with transfer partners to improve retention through collaboration with faculty, staff, and by connecting students to college resources.
Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Manage a caseload of students as the result of Early Alerts and/or retention initiatives; advise students (continuing, and as needed, new students); and support the success of all students, including providing services in the Help Hub, participating in transfer and advising events, and supporting Student Engagement events.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Experience providing academic advising to students.
- Prior advising at a college or university is preferred.
- Proven academic excellence and subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience, and/or a bachelor’s degree.
- Candidates must be able to effectively use standard office electronic communication and student information systems.
- Proficiency in the use of PeopleSoft, EAB Navigate, Canvas, Microsoft Office and Google Suite preferred, while being adept at learning new technologies.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, demonstrate initiative and be student success focused.
- Demonstrate cultural competency and experience working with diverse populations.
- Employee must have reliable transportation and be able to work a flexible schedule, including working on either campus, some evenings, occasional weekends and teleworking, if required.
- Successful completion and passing a criminal background check required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Counseling or related field is highly preferred
- Experience in teaching, presenting workshops, and/or advising in an academic setting is highly desirable.
- Experience in Higher Education is a plus.
