Principal/Senior Structural Engineer
Memphis, TN
We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Principal Structural Engineer to serve as both a technical leader and strategic contributor within a growing engineering organization. This role combines advanced structural engineering expertise with operational leadership, project oversight, mentorship, and client engagement across complex heavy industrial projects.
The ideal candidate will play a critical role in leading engineering execution, improving workflows and operational structure, mentoring technical teams, and helping strengthen long-term organizational growth. This position requires someone who can balance hands-on technical involvement with leadership responsibilities while maintaining exceptional communication and problem-solving abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structural engineering efforts for heavy industrial and complex infrastructure projects
- Provide structural analysis, technical review, and design oversight
- Support project planning, estimating, and proposal development activities
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers
- Serve as a trusted technical resource across multidisciplinary teams
- Communicate directly with clients regarding project requirements, technical solutions, and project execution
- Review structural models and provide engineering guidance throughout project lifecycles
- Support the growth and development of the structural engineering function
- Participate in strategic planning and long-term operational improvement initiatives
- Collaborate across engineering disciplines to solve complex technical challenges
- Help establish and maintain engineering standards, quality controls, and review procedures
Qualifications
- PE or SE license strongly preferred, or demonstrated ability and willingness to pursue licensure
- 5–7 years of structural engineering experience preferred
- Strong experience within heavy industrial project environments
- Excellent communication and client-facing capabilities
- Prior experience mentoring, leading, or supporting technical teams
- Familiarity with industry-standard structural analysis and modeling tools such as Revit, Inventor, RISA, and related software
- Ability to balance technical execution with operational leadership responsibilities
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and prioritization skills
- High levels of professionalism, accountability, and ownership
- Comfortable operating within fast-moving consulting or project-based environments
