Position Overview
The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving the plant’s quality systems, ensuring customer satisfaction, and driving continuous improvement within manufacturing operations. This role will work closely with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to resolve quality concerns, maintain compliance with industry standards, and support product launches. Travel to MTI and customer facilities is required.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Support & Issue Resolution
- Attend customer meetings and perform customer site visits as needed.
- Follow up on customer concerns, rejections, and quality-related issues.
- Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with customers and suppliers.
Quality Systems & Documentation
- Monitor and maintain internal quality systems; report findings and recommendations to leadership.
- Assist with PPAP documentation and submissions for new and modified products.
- Support the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) system.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with ISO/IATF standards.
Production & Process Support
- Perform scrap reviews and report findings using standard reporting formats.
- Participate in problem-solving teams (8D, Six Sigma, Lean, root cause analysis).
- Assist in investigating product defects and recommend changes to product, process, or quality standards.
- Train hourly personnel on quality specifications and requirements.
- Support “Best Practices” implementation across the plant.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering, production, and plant leadership to enhance product quality.
- Support launch teams, APQP activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide daily support to plant personnel as required.
Qualifications
Required
- BS degree in Engineering or related field, OR
- Professional Engineering certification with 3 years of experience, OR
- Minimum 7 years of Quality Engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- PPAP, APQP, DOE, SPC, 8D problem solving
- ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 standards
- GD&T and blueprint reading
- Quality systems, practices, and principles
- Proficiency with computers, software tools, and documentation systems.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, driven, and able to work independently and in teams.
Preferred
- Experience with engineering software (2D CAD, CAE, Creo, MAGMA).
- Experience in automotive or plastics manufacturing environments.
Physical & Work Environment
- 50% office, 50% production floor.
- Must be able to move throughout office and plant environments.
- Ability to operate computer systems and plant equipment.
- Frequent interaction with employees, customers, and suppliers.
