Maintenance & Engineering Supervisor
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance & Engineering Supervisor to lead a day-shift maintenance team in a manufacturing environment.
This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who enjoys coaching maintenance technicians, solving equipment problems, improving reliability, and partnering with production to maximize uptime. The Supervisor will coordinate daily maintenance activities, prioritize work orders, oversee preventive maintenance, and drive continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.
The successful candidate will lead by example, promote a strong safety culture, and work closely with management to improve equipment reliability and department performance.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily work assignments for maintenance mechanics.
- Coordinate emergency repairs while balancing preventive maintenance.
- Plan and schedule maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
- Coach and develop maintenance personnel through hands-on training.
- Ensure all work complies with safety policies and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
- Support repairs on continuous mixers, twin-screw extruders, pelletizing systems, conveying equipment, pumps, motors, gearboxes, and facility systems.
- Review completed work orders for quality and accuracy.
- Monitor preventive maintenance completion and equipment performance.
- Identify recurring equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Coordinate contractors and outside service providers.
- Maintain spare parts inventory and recommend critical spare stocking levels.
- Support equipment installations, upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to improve equipment reliability.
- Assist with budgeting, planning, and maintenance KPI tracking.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of industrial maintenance experience.
- Two or more years of experience leading maintenance personnel.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission, pumps, bearings, motors, and conveyors.
- Experience with extrusion or plastics manufacturing preferred.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems and CMMS software.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Basic Microsoft Office skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
