What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library _Custodian/Handyman position at Brighton District Library?
General Description of the Position:
Under general supervision of the Library Director, this position works beside another custodian to ensure the proper upkeep of the Library building and grounds. This includes 3 hours per day of general cleaning activities (sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning and disinfecting lavatories, and removing trash and refuse). Additionally, the last hour will be spent performing basic building repairs, including a wide variety of general labor tasks. This position requires the ability to work between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Monday - Friday.
Required Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent
Ability to provide general labor as needed: cleaning, snow shoveling, lawn maintenance, change lightbulbs
Ability to perform visual inspections of building and grounds
Ability to operate basic office equipment
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and vendors
A valid Michigan driver’s license is required
Desired Qualifications:
At least two years of building maintenance experience
Knowledge of building trades, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and maintenance
Ability to operate a wide variety of hand and power tools related to the repair and maintenance of buildings and grounds
Ability to operate basic office equipment
