Brighton Ballet Theater Co., Inc. (BBT) is a not-for-profit dance school dedicated to offering high-quality dance education to children and adults. Established 38 years ago, BBT focuses on developing well-rounded individuals through the discipline of dance. The school combines work with public sloohcs, charter schools, libraries, and senior centers. Providing development workshops and residencies, as well as after-school programs. We produce and present our ballets for young audiences, host festivals, and perform on stages across New York City.


Role Description

Exciting Opportunity: Lighting Designer for Brighton Ballet Theater! Brighton Ballet Theater is thrilled to invite a talented lighting designer to join us for three performances and one rehearsal of our upcoming production! This is a fantastic paid opportunity for creative individuals eager to shine in theater.

Rehearsal Schedule:

Date: December 6 - Time: 4 PM - 6 PM - This rehearsal is a key moment for collaborating closely with our dancers, making sure that the lighting beautifully complements their artistry. together!

Performance Schedule:

1. December 12 - Performance Time: 12 PM - 1 PM - Arrival Time: 10 AM

2. December 14 - Class Concert: 2 PM - 4 PM - Arrival Time: 12 PM - Main Performance - "The Nutcracker": 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM - You'll have a wonderful opportunity to prepare thoroughly for all events, ensuring that all lighting cues are polished! We are eager to collaborate with a passionate lighting designer to enhance the creative ambiance of our production. Qualifications for a Lighting Designer


  • Relevant Experience

Proven experience in lighting design for theater, film, television, concerts, or events.

Strong portfolio showcasing previous projects and designs.

  • Technical Skills

Proficiency in lighting design software (e.g., Vectorworks, AutoCAD, or Wysiwyg).

Understanding of electrical engineering concepts and lighting technologies.

  • Creative Skills

Strong sense of aesthetics and design.

Ability to interpret scripts and concepts to create effective lighting designs.

  • Problem-Solving Abilities

Excellent troubleshooting skills in high-pressure environments.

Adaptability to last-minute changes and challenges during productions.

  • Educational Background

Bachelor's degree in Lighting Design, Theatre Production, Fine Arts, or a related field

  • Collaboration and Communication -

Ability to work collaboratively with directors, production teams, and other designers. - Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate design concepts and decisions.

  • Attention to Detail

Keen attention to detail in design and execution to ensure quality and safety standards are met.

  • Knowledge of Safety Standards

Familiarity with industry safety regulations and standards for lighting equipment and installations.

  • Time Management

Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.

  • Continuing Education

Commitment to staying updated on new technologies and trends in lighting design through workshops, seminars, and industry conferences.
