After Brightline Florida completed the first passenger rail system connecting Miami and Orlando, Brightline West was formed to connect Las Vegas and Southern California through the nation’s first true high-speed, electric passenger rail system. Reaching speeds of more than 186 miles per hour, this 218-mile high-speed rail service will take passengers from Las Vegas to the Greater Los Angeles area twice as fast as the normal drive time.

SUMMARY
We are looking for a motivated self-starter to join our team at Brightline West as an intern with our Finance team in Las Vegas, NV. This individual will support senior team members with workstreams across forecasting, capital raising, grant administration, and project management. This will include financial modeling, research and analytics, and any other items that support the development and execution of our business strategies. Candidates should have an interest in learning about federal funding through grant programs and participating in the implementation of a federal grant.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, including the ability to work with and present to senior team members and leaders.
- Own assigned tasks and analyses, including financial analyses, research assignments, written reports, presentations, and other documents.
- Develop logical and professional presentations on assigned research assignments and collaborate in preparing presentations on the business, which requires Microsoft PowerPoint capabilities.
- Assist with development of financial models, tables, and charts, which requires working knowledge of Microsoft Excel functions and formatting.
- Abstracting and understanding of financial agreements such as loan agreements, Federal grant agreements, and financial, which requires baseline finance and accounting knowledge and strong reading comprehension.
- Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, including the ability to work with federal representatives.
- Developing quarterly financial and progress reports for federal grants.
- Compiling partner invoicing and federal reimbursement requests.
- Assist with the tracking/documenting of federal grant requirements, which requires a general understanding of federal rules and regulations.
REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Prior work or internship experience in a professional environment.
- Demonstrated responsibility, attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated curiosity and a keen interest in exploring new topics.
- Demonstrated discretion in handling and maintaining confidential and sensitive information.
- Numerical literacy; understanding of finance and accounting principles and reading financial statements.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.
- Skilled in and comfortable using Microsoft Office suite, including Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel (beginner to intermediate level Excel, including formatting, filtering and sorting data, using formulas, IF statement functions, basic charts, etc.).
