Role Description
We are seeking a Patient Account Specialist for a full-time, in-office role at our corporate office in Lakewood, NJ. In this position you will be the primary point of contact for families regarding patient financial responsibility.
This role involves verifying claims processing against insurance benefits to ensure proper payment, managing patient accounts, verifying insurance coverage, clearly explaining plan benefits and coverage details to families or guardians, and being available to answer questions regarding deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and billing statements.
The goal is to set accurate financial expectations at the start of services and to maintain clarity throughout the patient’s course of care.
This position requires exceptional communication skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to confidently de-escalate concerns while explaining complex insurance and billing concepts.
Key Responsibilites
- Serve as the primary contact for parents and guardians with questions regarding billing statements, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and patient responsibility
- Verify insurance coverage and benefit details, relaying this information to families
- Explain insurance plans, EOBs, and coverage limitations in a clear, family-friendly manner
- Establish and reinforce financial expectations at intake and throughout ongoing services
- Identify insurance processing errors to ensure families are billed accurately, and in accordance with their plan benefits
- Collaborate with billing and insurance teams to resolve discrepancies and escalated concerns
- De-escalate upset or frustrated callers with empathy, confidence, and professionalism
- Accurately document all communications and maintain organized account records
Qualifications & Skills
