The Director of Teaching and Learning provides strategic instructional leadership to ensure high-quality curriculum, teaching practices, and academic outcomes across all divisions. The role oversees curriculum development, instructional improvement, academic data systems, and professional learning while ensuring alignment with school standards, Islamic values, and strategic goals. The position includes leadership of humanities curriculum, arts integration, instructional systems development, and grant-funded academic initiatives.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstructional Leadership
· Oversee curriculum development, implementation, and review across all academic divisions.
· Ensure alignment of instruction with school academic standards, TEKS requirements, assessments, and learning objectives.
· Lead curriculum alignment and instructional innovation for English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Fine Arts.
· Develop interdisciplinary units, curriculum maps, pacing guides, and instructional frameworks.
· Integrate arts across humanities content and align humanities curriculum with broader STEAM initiatives.
· Provide coaching and evaluation support to instructional staff and department heads.
· Analyze student performance data to guide instructional improvement and program planning.
Professional Development
· Design and deliver professional learning programs that strengthen instructional capacity.
· Lead professional development in literacy, writing instruction, historical thinking, and arts integration.
· Support new teacher onboarding and mentorship initiatives.
· Develop tools, protocols, and resources for instructional coaching and PLC facilitation.
· Conduct coaching cycles with department heads and support them in data-driven planning and teacher development.
Assessment and Academic Evaluation
· Oversee academic assessment programs and ensure data-driven decision-making across all divisions.
· Support division heads and teachers in analyzing MAP data, AP performance, writing assessments, and other measures.
· Develop assessment frameworks for reading, writing, critical thinking, and creative expression.
· Prepare academic reports and strategic recommendations for school leadership.
Strategic Planning & Systems Development
· Develop standards, SOPs, and instructional systems for curriculum implementation, writing rubrics, assessment tools, and program monitoring.
· Design accountability systems to ensure curriculum fidelity and instructional consistency.
· Lead long-term strategic planning for humanities and schoolwide instructional improvement.
· Research and recommend instructional technologies and platforms.
Grant Writing & Funding Development
· Research and identify federal, state, foundation, and corporate grant opportunities related to curriculum, literacy, humanities, arts integration, and professional development.
· Write and submit competitive grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and evaluation plans.
· Manage grant compliance, reporting, and documentation requirements.
· Develop multi-year funding strategies and maintain relationships with grant-making organizations.
Collaboration and Communication
· Work closely with academic leadership to maintain consistency in instructional practices across all divisions.
· Communicate effectively with faculty and administration about curriculum, assessment, and academic priorities.
· Serve as a professional resource to department heads and instructional teams.
QualificationsRequired
· Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, English Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
· Minimum 5 years of teaching experience; 3 years of instructional leadership.
· Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and teacher development.
· Strong understanding of literacy instruction, humanities curriculum, and arts integration.
· Experience using data to drive instructional decisions.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
· Texas teaching certification in English, Social Studies, or a related field.
· Texas Principal Certification or Mid-Management Certification.
· Certified Instructional Coach or Master Teacher certification.
· Experience writing and securing educational grants.
· Experience in an Islamic school or faith-based educational setting.
· Doctoral degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Curriculum & Instruction or Educational Leadership.
