Position Title:  Director of Alumni Support and College Success

Reports to:  Senior VP of Student and Family Services

FLSA Status:  Exempt, Full-Time, 12-month

Bright Star Schools is a free, publicly funded and open enrollment non-profit organization with nine public charters in urban Los Angeles. Across all of our Bright Star sites, over 90% of our students are eligible for free and reduced lunch.

Role Summary

The Director of Alumni Support and College Success (ASCS) leads the centralized Alumni Support and College Success Program for Bright Star Schools. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving a network-wide system that supports alumni from high school graduation through postsecondary completion.

Working across all high schools, the Director partners closely with principals, school counselors, the Director of School Counseling, and other student support leaders to ensure strong senior-to-alumni transitions and sustained alumni engagement. The Director establishes clear outcomes, builds infrastructure for alumni tracking and support, and provides data-driven insight to executive leadership on alumni persistence and completion trends.

Reporting to the SVP of Student & Family Services, this role serves as the central leader for alumni success across the network and is accountable for building a sustainable, high-impact alumni support model.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Network-Wide Alumni Strategy & Systems

  • Develop and implement a clear strategy for alumni matriculation, persistence, and graduation
  • Establish measurable goals aligned to organizational priorities
  • Design and implement sustainable systems for tracking alumni outcomes and maintaining long-term engagement across all high schools.
  • Continuously assess program effectiveness and refine strategies based on data and emerging needs.

Cross-School Partnership & Alignment

  • Partner closely with high school principals to align alumni success strategies with school goals
  • Collaborate with school counselors to ensure smooth senior-to-alumni transition
  • Work in coordination with the Director of School Counseling to align advising practices
  • Serve as the central point of leadership and coordination for alumni success across the network
  • Provide regular updates and outcome reporting to the SVP of Student & Family Services

Alumni Tracking, Data Systems & Reporting

  • Implement and manage alumni tracking processes to monitor postsecondary enrollment, persistence, and completion outcomes
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive alumni records across all high schools
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports for the SVP of Student & Family Services and executive leadership, highlighting trends, outcomes, and areas of concern
  • Identify alumni who may require additional support and coordinate appropriate outreach and interventions
  • Partner with the SVP of Student & Family Services in the development and launch of a Bright Star alumni engagement platform; provide program expertise, user insight, and ongoing management of alumni-facing tools and communications
  • Ensure confidentiality and responsible stewardship of alumni data

Alumni Engagement & Tiered Support

  • Design and implement a tiered alumni support model that provides differentiated levels of engagement and support based on alumni needs.
  • Develop communication systems (digital platforms, newsletters, events) to maintain engagement
  • Build alumni community that reinforces belonging and persistence

Postsecondary & Career Partnerships

  • Develop and maintain relationships with colleges, scholarship organizations, and support programs
  • Connect alumni to tutoring, internships, career pathways, and other opportunities that support persistence and career readiness
  • Promote summer, career, and networking opportunities

Transition & Senior Education

  • Educate graduating seniors and families about alumni support services
  • Coordinate with each high school to introduce alumni programming before graduation
  • Ensure continuity of support from senior year through postsecondary enrollment

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Education or Counseling credential preferred.
  • 5 years supporting high school/college students, preferably from low-income or high-needs communities; college persistence experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of college admissions and financial aid, especially for first-generation students; Spanish fluency preferred.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to build relationships with alumni, higher education partners, charter networks, and staff.
  • Strong organization, communication, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with technology platforms, databases, and social media; experience planning events preferred; reliable transportation required; strong alignment with Bright Star Schools’ mission and values.

WHAT WE OFFER:

Salary:  $108,000 - $148,000  

Start Date: July 1, 2026

Location: Los Angeles, CA
