In this role, you will use your data analytics and visualization skills to inform BYU leadership about progress toward achieving key student academic success metrics and the fulfillment of the BYU Mission and Aims. This job is ideal for people interested in analyzing data to identify patterns and trends, make comparisons, draw inferences, and determine what data to use to create innovative dashboards and reports to inform leaders’ decision-making. The position will work with data from multiple sources using various techniques, ranging from preliminary data aggregation to complex data analyses that feed into interactive dashboards. The successful candidate can demonstrate the ability to perform data analysis, make inferences, and visualize data in multiple formats. This position collaborates across our office to meet campus leadership's and stakeholders' data needs, strongly emphasizing data accuracy and timely report creation.
Note: This is a part-time position (28) hours per week.

The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.

What You’ll Do In This Position
Analyses and Reports
- Analyze university, college, and departmental data across the full student lifecycle to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
- Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and institutional data outputs (e.g., enrollment, graduation, credit hours, survey data) to effectively communicate findings.
- Optimize analytics and reporting processes to support data-informed decision-making and improve student academic outcomes.
- Provide data tables and figures using data visualization tools for print and web publications that are accurate and easily interpreted by multiple end users.
- Ensure that the appropriate protocols are in place to protect privacy and ensure the security of data dissemination.
- Write and maintain standardized data queries/scripts to extract data from the office survey data warehouse and student data tables and ad hoc queries in collaboration with BYU OIT developers as directed.
- Assist in technical and software processes in the office as needed.
- Provide critical assessment of the office’s technical needs regarding data systems and management as needed.
- Train and mentor student data analysts.
- Train departments regarding their data needs as appropriate.
What qualifies you for this role:
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
- Bachelor’s degree in information management, computer science, bioinformatics, statistics, accounting, or related fields or equivalent work experience. A strong understanding of relational databases and database querying.
- Proficient in data analysis tools and languages (Excel, Tableau/Power BI, SQL/Python/R, SPSS)
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with ability to derive insights from data
- Effective communicator able to collaborate across departments and translate data into clear, meaningful stories
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, and able to work independently or in teams while meeting deadlines
- Master’s degree.
- Experience with a data-oriented programming language such as SQL, Python, or R
- Experience with Tableau
- Experience translating data and trends into meaningful insights and stories
