Academic and Admissions Advisor
This position provides academic and admissions advisement to prospective and current FlexGE, Bachelor of General Studies (BGS), Visiting Students (VS), concurrent high school, and post-baccalaureate students. The role provides comprehensive support for students, many of whom are distance learners, including responding to inquiries, assisting with admissions, helping students establish and achieve academic goals, providing ongoing guidance and support, and preparing students for graduation. This position also assists with department operations, program assessment activities, and special assignments while requiring work in both Provo and Salt Lake.

Typical Starting Pay: $59,000 - $75,000
The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.

What You’ll Do In This Position
- Provide academic advisement to prospective and current students in FlexGE, BGS, Visiting Student, concurrent high school, and post-baccalaureate programs.
- Guide students through admissions, registration, transfer planning, graduation planning, and academic improvement plans.
- Assist students in exploring educational, career, graduate school, and licensure opportunities.
- Support retention efforts by encouraging and assisting students who are not making satisfactory progress.
- Maintain accurate student records and advisement materials.
- Collaborate with university offices, faculty, and advising centers to support student success and program effectiveness.
- Participate in financial assistance committees, scholarship processes, program assessment, and special projects.
- Assist with department operations, event support, and training of student advisors.
What qualifies you for this role:
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Three years of advisement experience.
- Advisement certification (or equivalent graduate coursework) OR 0–3 years of advisement experience.
- Ability to create an environment conducive to developmental advising.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills related to student advising processes.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent computer knowledge and skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the ability to learn university systems.
- Familiarity with U.S. higher education processes and requirements.
- Master’s degree.
- Advisement certification (or equivalent graduate coursework) AND 1–3 years of advisement experience.
- Extensive knowledge of BYU University Core and graduation requirements.
- Familiarity with campus services and locations.
- Knowledge of advising theories and techniques relevant to distance students.
- Experience working with nontraditional and distance learners, including students with learning disabilities.
- Ability to analyze student problems and apply appropriate advising theories and techniques.
