16 Hour Evenings - Saturday and Sunday 3p-11p Key Responsibilities Provide a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff, and hospital property. Conduct routine patrols of hospital buildings, grounds, and off-site facilities to identify safety hazards, security risks, and unsecured areas. Monitor alarms, surveillance cameras, and security systems to detect and respond to incidents. Respond to emergencies, security incidents, and requests for assistance in a timely and professional manner. Investigate thefts, suspicious activity, property loss, and other incidents; document findings through detailed written reports. Provide exceptional customer service by assisting patients, visitors, and employees with safety-related concerns. Perform patient restraints and detain individuals suspected of criminal activity when necessary. Escort patients, visitors, and staff to ensure their safety throughout the hospital campus. Safeguard valuables, property, and evidence while maintaining proper chain of custody. Assist motorists with vehicle lockouts and jump-starts. Maintain accurate incident logs and complete reports in accordance with departmental standards. Support specialized assignments such as Bike Patrol or Community Liaison Officer duties. Work across multiple hospital campuses and off-site facilities, adapting to different assignments and operational needs. Cross-train in various security posts and remain flexible to work alternate shifts and locations as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • 1-3 years of security or related experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license from state of residence required.
  • Must pass an initial and annual criminal background check.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the following certifications (training provided):
    • CPR/AED/First Aid
    • Narcan (Naloxone)
    • AVADE/HDTS De-Escalation
    • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification (within 90 days of hire)
  • Ability to obtain licensure as a Special State Police Officer under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 22C, Section 63 preferred.

  • Experience interviewing victims, witnesses, complainants, and suspects.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate reports and routine correspondence.
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.



Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for at least 8 hours.
  • Must be able to run to emergencies throughout the hospital and adjoining campuses.
  • Must be able to verbally and physically manage emergency situations upon arrival.
  • Requires strong vision and hearing to effectively respond to routine and emergency situations.
  • Must be capable of using appropriate physical force to overcome, restrain, or arrest individuals when necessary.
  • Must successfully complete the following functional assessment within the first 90 days of hire and annually thereafter.

Functional Assessment

1. Three-Minute Step Test

  • Measures cardiovascular endurance and recovery.
  • Step up and down in cadence with a metronome for 3 minutes.
  • Sit and rest for 1 minute.
  • Heart rate is recorded after the recovery period.

2. Step, Bend, and Crawl

  • Measures mobility and coordination.
  • Step over a hurdle.
  • Bend and crawl under a table.
  • Step over a second hurdle.
  • Reverse direction and repeat the sequence.

3. Stretcher Carry

  • Measures ability to assist with patient transport.
  • Lift a stretcher with a partner carrying approximately 150 pounds.
  • Use proper lifting technique:
    • Bend with the legs.
    • Keep the back straight.
    • Lift and lower the stretcher safely.

4. Pull and Drag

  • Measures upper-body strength.
  • Drag a 150-pound sled:
    • Pull it 10 feet forward.
    • Drag it 10 feet back to the starting position.

5. Balance Walk

  • Measures balance and coordination.
  • Walk the length of a 1-inch-wide tape.
  • Alternate feet with each step.
  • Each foot must remain in contact with the tape throughout the test.

6. Stair Climb

  • Measures speed and endurance.
  • Quickly walk up four flights of stairs.
  • Retrieve a card at the top.
  • Quickly descend four flights.
  • Return the card to the proctor.
  • Must complete the entire test in 35 seconds or less.
