JOB TITLE: Chemical Applicator
DEPARTMENT: Environmental Services
REPORTS TO: Environmental Services Crew Lead / Supervisor / Manager
Job Description: This is an entry-level applicator position. Chemical Applicator is the designation for unlicensed applicators whom are under the direct supervision of licensed applicators. This position will undergo various hands-on application trainings with the Environmental Services Supervisor.
Responsibilities: 1. Apply agricultural pesticides in a safe and efficient manner. 2. Read pesticide labels and carefully and follow all directions as stated on the label. 3. Communicate with Environmental Services Supervisor on a daily basis. 4. Mix and load products accurately and safely. 5. Assure worker safety by following proper equipment maintenance and safety guidelines. 6. Must set excellent example in safety & conduct. 7. Post spray locations on central posting board(s) and flip spray signs at the end of each REI. 8. Ensure cleanliness of work area and proper chemical storage. 9. Work with other crews on the nursery doing non-pesticide tasks when required. 10. Work different or extended hours when necessary to complete applications in a timely manner. a. Per company policy, work hours are not to exceed 40/wk outside of specific, rare extenuating circumstances. 11. In absence of the Spray Supervisor, any crewmember may be asked to take on the following responsibilities: a. Communicates with the Spray Coordinator daily to discuss target goals and needs of the department. b. Distributes jobs to the crew c. Trains any new crew members d. Assists applicators with troubleshooting to promote best coverage, efficacy, and efficiency e. Coordinates Re-entry Interval (REI) guidelines with other departments affected by them and willingly adjusts applications to meet the needs of the nursery. f. Checks that the E.S. building and work mixing and storage areas are clean, safe, and locked at day’s end. g. Ensures proper winterization of building and equipment as per Briggs winterization protocols.
Required Education and/or Experience: 18 required for applicators/handlers Minimum - High School Diploma or equivalent. (Preferred)
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as the department handbook, work assignments and safety rules. Ability to communicate clearly with all members of the department.
Compensation: $17.50/hr. starting. $1 raise offered if Private Applicator License is obtained during employment.
