REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:             TRANSPORTATION:
  1. Drive a school bus over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules and in accordance with regulations and laws related to pupil transportation; transport students to and from school, special events and field trips. E
  2. Pick up and discharge students at established bus stops; escort students across streets; report incidents which affect the safety of students as necessary. E
  3. Maintain bus in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicle inspections including cleaning windows, mirrors and bust interior and exterior; check and maintain fuel, oil and water levels; check brakes, brake lights and doors; report mechanical defects and malfunctions to appropriate personnel. E
  4. Transport physically handicapped and mentally handicapped children to and from designated locations; lift and secure wheel chairs; assist in the loading and unloading of handicapped children as necessary; perform first aid or emergency assistance as required. E
  5. Maintain records concerning vehicle maintenance, miles driven and number of children transported and other related matters; prepare student conduct, incident and accident reports. E
  6. Utilize two-way radio for bust to bus and bus to base communication.
  7. Perform related duties as assigned.
  MAINTENANCE:       1.     Perform routine custodial activities at an assigned District school site during a day or evening shift; sweep, scrub,                mop, wax and polish floors; vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops and other work areas;                spot clean and shampoo carpets. E       2.     Clean classrooms, cafeterias, lounges, offices and other facilities as assigned; empty waste receptacles; spot mop                spills; remove gum, debris and graffiti as needed. E       3.     Clean and disinfect drinking fountains and restroom facilities including sinks, toilets and urinals; fill dispensers                with towels, soap, toilet paper and other items; clean mirrors, tile and windows; unclog drains and toilets. E       4.     Perform various custodial activities including replacing light bulbs and tubes, cleaning chalkboards and erasers                and emptying pencil sharpeners; clean tables, chairs and floors after breakfast, lunch and recess periods as                assigned. E       5.     Dust and polish furniture and woodwork; perform minor repairs to furniture as needed. E       6.     Lock and unlock doors and gates as appropriate; maintain security of assigned areas according to established                guidelines; set alarms as appropriate. E       7.     Perform a variety of general maintenance and repair to equipment, furniture and other systems; replace wall                outlet covers and switch plate covers; remove and replace filters. E       8.    Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate authority; report need for maintenance repairs to               appropriate authority; respond to emergency custodial requests as needed. E       9.    Operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, mops, small hand and power tools, buffer/scrubber machines and               other equipment as assigned. E    10.     Move and arrange furniture and equipment; prepare classrooms and multi-purpose rooms for special events or                meetings; set-up and assemble chairs, tables and other furniture and equipment for special events and activities;               clean up furniture, equipment and debris following these events. E   11.      Tighten door locks as assigned; tighten/replace door stops and striker plates as assigned. E   12.      Perform minor grounds maintenance duties as assigned. E   13.      Participate in the thorough cleaning and restoration of campus facilities during vacation periods. E   14.      Perform related duties as assigned.       KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Safe driving practices. Provisions of the California State Motor Vehicle code and Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting students. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Proper methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in modern custodial work. Modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning floors, blackboards, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures. Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies. Requirements of maintaining District buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Appropriate safety precautions and procedures. Proper lifting techniques.   ABILITY TO: Operate a school bus over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students. Drive vehicles currently licensed to drive without restriction. Maintain order and discipline among students while driving a school bus. Maintain assigned vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition. Recognize equipment malfunctions and take appropriate action. Learn designated bus routes including stops and traffic hazards. Maintain routine records. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Meet schedules and time lines. Observe legal and defensive driving practices. Assist in loading and unloading handicapped children as necessary. Perform routine custodial activities at an assigned school site or other District facility. Maintain District buildings and adjacent grounds in a clean, orderly and secure condition. Use cleaning materials and equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Operate a variety of custodial equipment. Maintain tools and equipment in clean working order. Move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events. Observe and report safety hazards and need for maintenance and repair. Perform minor non-technical repairs. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Meet schedules and time lines.   WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: School bus environment. Driving in various road and weather conditions to conduct work. Indoor and outdoor work environment. Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors.   PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling heavy objects. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of custodial equipment. Sitting for extended periods of time when operating a transportation vehicle. Walking and stepping up/down or standing for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Seeing to perform driving and custodial duties. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Climbing ladders and working from heights to replace light bulbs.   HAZARDS: Traffic hazards when stopping traffic and escorting students across streets. Exposure to driving a school bus during adverse weather conditions. Exposure to cleaning agents, chemicals and exhaust fumes. Working on ladders.   LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or Equivalent Possession of an appropriate California Driver’s License, Class B with Passenger Endorsement Verification of: -Passing a School Bus Driver’s Certificate to operate a school bus -Commercial Driver License with Airbrakes -A Standard Red Cross First Aid Certificate -CPR Certificate -Medical Examination Certificate                Current DMV Record                Clearance of Fingerprints/Tuberculosis, and drug testing required (upon position offer) Maintain in-service hours and classroom time as required by law.
