Construction Inspector - Miami VA Medical Center

Job description:

Brien Disaster Management (BDM) is currently seeking an onsite full-time Construction Inspector at Miami VA Medical Center 1201 NW 16th St, Miami, FL 33125.

Required Qualification:

  • Associate’s degree or graduate of an accredited Trade School or formal construction apprenticeship program. Educational requirements may be substituted by 10 years of directly related experience.
  • 7 years of experience in construction inspection and contractor oversight activities associated with facilities (i.e., buildings, structures, equipment, systems, etc.) construction and implementation. Familiarity with handling RFI, change orders, submittal logs, etc. Also, field knowledge of safety, scheduling, and cost control are essential skills. Professional experience should also include ability to read and interpret construction documents.
  • Be able to pass a background check that includes validation of at least 3 years living in the US.
  • Eligible to work in the US.
  • Have a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Owner’s representative experience for the federal government
  • Design and construction management experience for medical facilities
  • Professional Engineering registration/licensure

Other Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience managing facility construction projects, including supervision, scheduling, budgeting, and overall project oversight.
  • Conduct construction site inspections and prepare daily reports.
  • Review/Track Contractor's submittals for technical compliance with contract requirements.
  • Review/Track RFls and make recommendations as to acceptance, required changes, or rejection.
  • Knowledge of Construction Contract Documents including Technical Specifications and Drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of all engineering disciplines for hospital construction.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to brief owner during project update briefings.
  • Strong organizational skills to track projects, prepare meeting minutes, and meet required deadlines.
  • Most work will be completed during normal business with occasional night, holiday, and weekend required.
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English.
  • Must be familiar with and able to use the Microsoft Suite of Services, including Teams, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and basic Excel skills.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions, wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, walk long distances on rough and uneven surfaces, stand for long periods, lift construction materials to access inspections, climb ladders and scaffolding, and navigate typical civil construction site obstacles.
