Department: Somerset Arrive Together
Salary: $65,000-$75,000
Location: Somerset County, NJ
Schedule: Monday-Friday 3:00pm-11:00pm or 4:00pm-12:00am
Position Overview: The ARRIVE Crisis Clinician is a compassionate and skilled mental health professional who works closely with law enforcement as part of the ARRIVE Together Program in Somerset County. The clinician provides timely and effective mental health support and crisis intervention to individuals experiencing varying levels of psychological distress.
Embedded within police departments, clinicians work alongside law enforcement to deliver mental health services in multiple capacities, including;
- Providing crisis intervention and de-escalation
- Responding to 911 calls involving behavioral health concerns
- Offering proactive follow-up care in person or via phone
- Linking individuals to community resources
All services are delivered in accordance with Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) with participating police departments and include assessment, crisis stabilization, referral/linkage, and consultation on when a referral to the screening provider if warranted.
This role follows directives established by the NJ Attorney General’s Office, which states that ARRIVE Crisis Clinicians respond to emergency calls involving behavioral health needs, including mental health crises, confusion/disorientation, suicidality, welfare checks, and other mental-health-related situations identified by the police department. This position requires flexibility, strong clinical judgment, and a commitment to ongoing training and supervision.
Essential Job Functions
Create and Maintain:
A trauma‑informed environment using person-first language, respectful documentation, and person-centered planning, promoting wellness and recovery outcomes.
- A culture of compliance with internal and external policies, regulations, laws, and ethical standards.
- Effective working relationships with Somerset County first responders and community providers.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills and the ability to work productively alongside law enforcement officers, offering education, guidance, and support.
- Must consistently maintain professionalism and comply with all departmental rules, regulations, and protocols while operating within police facilities and vehicles.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to behavioral-health-related calls for service, including crises, confused/disoriented individuals, welfare checks, or other mental-health-related needs identified by law enforcement.
- Provide follow-up support to individuals and families.
- Deliver crisis intervention counseling to stabilize psychiatric emergencies.
- Provide mental health assessment, evaluation, treatment planning, and referral.
- Advocate for individuals to secure needed services and support.
- Develop individualized care plans in collaboration with community agencies.
- Collaborate with community providers, including psychiatric screening center when clinically appropriate.
- Complete all required documentation, reports, assessments, and submissions, including Benchmark.
- Coordinate with RWJ Hospital or RWJ PESS staff regarding screenings or transportation for individuals who may meet criteria for psychiatric evaluation.
- Maintain individuals’ rights and ensure confidentiality.
- Provide appropriate short-term follow-up to ensure linkage, stabilization, and continuity of care.

Requirements
Education/Certifications:
- Master’s Degree in health related field
- NJ Provisionally Licensed Social Worker, NJ Licensed Associate Counselor, NJ Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist
Driver’s License, Vehicle:
- Valid driver’s license required/ Vehicle required
- No more than one moving violation within the past 12 months
