Position Summary: The Fuel Handler is responsible for continuous fuel supply to the facility. The Fuel Handler off loads approximately 5000 tons of fuel chips weekly as well as rotating and blending inventory to optimize plant operations. Moving and off-loading of fly ash as required. The Fuel Handler takes deliveries of bulk materials and packages requiring rolling stock operations. The Fuel Handler assures that the wood-yard and associated equipment is maintained and operated in a safe and efficient manner at all times. At times they will be called upon to support plant maintenance and operations activities
Essential Duties:
- Work with team members to meet established safety, environmental, production and maintenance goals and standards.
- Successfully complete all required safety and environmental training.
- Perform maintenance activities required to support normal operation of wood-yard equipment and systems.
- Report equipment conditions or other facility anomalies that could affect plant status to Plant Operator and plant management team.
- Complete required locking and tagging of plant equipment in accordance with plant and OSHA approved practices.
- Participate in plant housekeeping and clean-up activities required to maintain a safe work environment. These activities shall include but not be limited to cleaning, painting, and trash removal.
- Perform assigned preventative maintenance, emergency repairs and inspection of plant mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Respond to abnormal operating situations in a safe and environmentally conscious manner.
- Comply with all site safety requirements. Identify and make corrective actions necessary to eliminate potential safety hazards in the facility.
- Operate station vehicles such as front-end loader, roll-on truck, skid steer and Gene man lift.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Position requires working on feet for extended working hours, with weekend and holiday work as required by schedule.
- Must be able to frequently climb ladders, enter and work in confined space areas, climb and work on elevated platforms at elevations of 90 feet or more.
- Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions and to climb vertical access ladders in all weather conditions.
- Personal protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirators and other gear).
- Strong mechanical aptitude/experience is a plus
- Prior heavy equipment operation, front-end loader and skid-steer
